15 Things That Happen At The CULC At Georgia Tech

If you are a Georgia Tech native I guarantee these things have happened to you or will in the future. The Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons or more colloquially 'CULC' is a place to study, sleep, wash, rinse, and repeat, but there are plenty of unspoken things that happen on a daily basis.

1. The 'Suh dude'

This is when you walk by a friend or acquaintance and you have a mutual understanding to not stay and talk so you give the head nod and a hand signal and walk in opposite directions.

2. The awkward 'Suh dude'

It becomes awkward because the head nod is a simple motion to end a conversation before it even begins, but then you both walk in the same direction and are forced to make small talk until you reach the fifth floor for chemistry lab.

3. The Breakout Glare

This is when you check three breakout rooms to see if your buzzcard will unlock them and by the fourth one, it finally opens. So you walk in and study until someone stares you down before you ask them if they reserved the room which indicates your time is done in there.

4. The Booth Sprint

Even if it's 4 a.m., if you see a booth you RUN and claim your spot by throwing your book bag with all of your strength to land perfectly in the booth seat.

5. The Bunker Down

When you have a killer spot on the fourth floor and you don't want to give it up so you stay as long as you can and have a friend bring you food.

6. The Rooftop Burn

When you try to tan and study but you're too lazy to move after the second hour, so you just feel the Bern.

7. The Public Trip

When you trip up the stairs to the third floor and everyone and their mother saw you eat it.

8. The Starbucks Shimmy

When the line is longer than the list of animals you want to own as pets and you have to weave your way through the people to get your coffee.

9. The too good to be true

You walk up to a booth thinking it's free detecting no sign of life until you see the one lonely laptop in the corner and the ONE person taking the entire area to himself/herself.

10. The Couldesac Jog

When you get the call that your Insomnia cookies have arrived, and your entire week is made happy for the minute and a half it takes to pay and eat them.

11. The Purge

Every night at 10 p.m. the voice recording letting us know the CULC is closing scares the sh*t out of you without fail. This also means if you enter the building after 10, you have to get your buzzcard out for access.

12. The Fight to Fail

This is the herd of people outside the auditoriums before they go to take an exam.

13. The Trap

You hear the sound of the machine accept your buzzcard and open the glass doors upon entry to the library only to have those doors close on you forcing your buzzcard to be scanned yet another time.

14. The second floor single bathroom fight

The second floor has single bathrooms that offer the maximum privacy. Highly coveted.

15. The Last Leg

When your battery is almost dead so you finish as much work as you can before it

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
