If you haven’t noticed yet Boston’s music scene is booming. As an environment which embodies cultural fusion, Boston has quickly become a place full of multifaceted artistic individuals. These following artists have already gained great grounds throughout the Boston community and other parts of the world. As they continue to develop as artist, it’s important that we as a community are aware and support them as much we can. Here are 15 of my favorite artists right now, along with some of their best songs.
Cousin Stizz
Cousin Stizz hails from Dorchester, he has come a very long way in his career. Through it all he always manages to recognize Boston as his main inspiration for all of the music he creates. His debut album, Suffolk County, gained great recognition, more than he actually anticipated. Drake himself subtly co-signed a track, Shoutout, from the tape. Since then he has opened up for artist like Chance The Rapper at the Boston House Of Blues and performed at SXSW in Austin, Texas during spring break 2016. Ultimately, Stizz's music embodies his calm, introversive, yet strongly spirited character and also gives insight to all aspects of Boston whether good or bad. All you have to do is listen.
Michael Christmas
Michael Christmas’ name describes his persona perfectly. Michael delivers a fun and humorous perspective to rapping. Michael’s raps are diverse and provide comedic relief to everyday situation such as video gaming, showering, etc. Michael continues to break grounds for Boston and continues to branch out to collaborate with artists from other parts of the country such as Mac Miller, Marc E. Bassy, Logic, and D.R.A.M. As he continues to evolve as multifaceted artist, I strongly recommend you to follow his music. Check out some his most popular work thus far.
Gio Dee
Gio Dee is another artist putting on for Boston. After joining music group #ChefBoyz, Gio Dee toured across New England selling out shows in Philadelphia and his hometown Boston. Gio Dee continues to work on perfecting his music sound. His latest project Boslanta, features other upcoming artists such as MADEINTYO and Quentin Miller and the industries top producers such as Metro Boomin. Make sure to keep your eye on Gio Dee!
Jefe Replay
Big Leano
Latrell James
Mike Wyche
If you like soul music like jazz and R&B, you're gonna love Michael Wyche. Wyche puts an energetic and modern twist to soul music. Most might categorizes his music as Pop/R&B, however, Wyche considers his music to fall under a self-proclaimed genre titled feel good. Listen to some of Wyche pieces from his latest project SOULTRAVIOLET.
Gin Mason
Gin Mason is very new to the music scene but has gained worldwide recognition for her debut song My Fault. She has been featured on Saint Heron, an online magazine article founded by Solange Knowles. Although she is very new to the scene, Gin Mason is definitely worth following. Listen to her debut song below.
Cash Gotti
Rosewood Bape
Dutch ReBelle
Dutch ReBelle is breaking ground not only for Boston but also for women in rap. Usually, the stigma for women in music is that they are overly sexualized and the depths of their lyrics aren’t taken into account. Dutch ReBelle’s music combats those stigmas by bringing a very raw yet melodic sound to the Boston music scene. Listen to her one of her songs from her debut "Kiss Kiss" EP featuring Jefe Replay.
Vintage Lee
Hasaan Barclay
Hassan Barclay brings a very distinctive voice to Boston's Music scene. If you're a big fan of Tame Impala, you're going to love Hassan Barclay. Barclay provides a beautiful muse by bringing together a mixture of uptempo instruments and beats with lyrics addressing different moods such as love, lust, etc. which are important emotions to the overall human experience. Listen to one his song from his latest project Heaven Is Your Last Dream.
