Where else would you want to spend freshman year?!

14 Things You Know To Be True If You Live In Tutwiler

Tutwiler. How do you even describe it? For all of you that don't go to Alabama, this all girls dorm is an institution at Alabama. Everyone that has lived there loves it and everyone who lives there now loves to hate it. It's so old, but holds SO many memories for thousands of girls who have attended Alabama.

Here's a list you'll only understand if you're a Tut girlie.

1. You ran out of dining dollars back in October because of Julia's.

SO much closer than the dining hall. The sushi isn't even THAT sketchy.

2. You think anyone who takes the elevator to the 5th floor or below is excessive.

Let's talk when you're on the 14th floor, k?

3. You're freaked out when you see boys in the dorm.

Sorry thought this was an all girls dorm?!? I like to walk around in my pjs.

4. You have the Tut Sickness.

This plague literally never goes away. You pass it onto someone else, and it eventually comes back to you.

5. Your room is either Antarctica or the Sahara.

There is no in between.

6. You know every detail of your neighbors' lives because the walls are paper thin.

Oh yea didn't you hear they broke up?! Maybe that was just what I heard last night through the wall...

7. It feels weird when you go home and shower without shoes on.

When did shower shoes become normal!?! Can't wait for my clean, shower shoe free apartment shower next year.

8. You know girls in every sorority.

Such a blessing. Otherwise you'd never have a chance to meet some of your best friends!

9. When you can't use the bathroom on the weekends because it's a biohazard.

Seriously though. Saturday and Sunday don't go into the bathrooms. Just don't.

10. You have to sit with your laundry.

Because this isn't Ridgecrest and girls are sketchy. Love it when there are no seats so you have to sit on your dryer.

11. You see the same girls in the bathroom every morning.

It really does bond you. Nothin' like seeing each other while brushing your teeth every morning at 8 A.M. for the semester.

12. You feel judged every time you walk by the front desk.

Seriously though, sometimes I really am JUST studying that late at night?!? Don't give me that look.

13. When you have your room key on in every picture you take.

Seriously though that thing has saved me. So convenient, yet so ugly.

14. You wouldn't change your time there for the world.

For all that I like to complain about Tut, it really is home to me.

So live it up while you can in Tut. It just won't be the same in 2020.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
