14 Things I Hate About Valentine's Day

#4 is too accurate for my little savage self.

So there are plenty of things to love about Valentine's Day. However, there is also a lot to hate about it, depending on your situation. Whether you're in a relationship or not, people of all kinds can agree with me on some of these.

1. Being single

Let us glorify relationships one day, and make all of the people who are single feel uncomfortable. Oh yeah, while making relationships seem so easy and necessary.

2. Short, fake relationships

Some people get into short relationships just to have someone on Valentine's Day, or just to get stuff from a significant other. It's disgustingly immoral really.

3. LOVE MOVIES

This is a love-hate relationship. I love sappy movies, but I hate them. My boyfriend doesn't like watching them, so I don't watch them on Valentine's Day. I record them, forget about them, and watch them on days I'm in my feelings. Sad day all around.

4. Valentine's in elementary school

Let's face it, you wrote that ugly valentine for the girl who stole your boyfriend of two weeks. How could you Sarah?! That's fine, I'll just steal Patrick from Andrea. He likes my crayons better anyway.

5. Chocolate

I LOVE chocolate, do not get me wrong here. However, it gets annoying to me when that is all I see when I enter any store. It's especially bad for all those on their New Years Resolution diets.

6. Prices of flowers

When good florists up their prices for one day, because it is a staple to get your significant other some flowers. That's fine, I'll just pick mine out of a field somewhere anyway.

7. Commercializing of the holiday

Let's mark up all the prices to mark them down for show and let's push all our product on people again. Just like every other holiday.

8. Being stood up

It's happened to a lot of people. No one likes to be stood up on Valentine's Day, especially because people usually spend a lot on plans on Valentine's Day.

9. Whoever you go out with expects sex

Yes, I get it. There is lots of lingerie and suggestive themes on Valentine's Day. No, that does not mean I automatically have to have sex with you, just because you bought me dinner.

10. Busy restaurants

The wait times are ridiculous, even more so than most other nights during the year. Plus, the staff is usually stressed out and rushed, so the service is more likely to be shitty.

11. Expectation of buying something

Because if you don't buy your girlfriend/wife/fiancee etc something for Valentine's Day, then you don't love them; or at least so some think.

12. Buying someone something and receiving no appreciation in return

What is the point if they don't appreciate it? Going through the trouble of picking something out, or planning something, and them not appreciating it.

13. Couple's gloating

Yes, I get it, you guys got a lot of nice things from each other and went on a wonderful adventure. Brag about it on social media, sure. I get it now.

14. Why limit love to one day?

Loving someone else shouldn't be special on one day, but every single day. Why just limit it to one day where you do special things together? You should make sure to make your significant other feels special every day, no matter the occasion.

(PST. Chocolate is all marked down the day after at major grocery stores and retailers; take advantage this week!)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
