Since I'm six feet tall, I must play basketball, I can't wear heels and I have a special talent for reaching things on the highest shelf. If you haven't experienced the following 13 things, are you really a tall girl?
1. The Introduction
Every time you meet someone, the first thing the say is, “Wow! You’re so tall.” However, you have to hold back and prevent yourself from pointing out the fact that you were aware of your height beforehand, and that you do, in fact, own a mirror.
2. The Heels
You can't own a pair of heels unless you want to be a foot above everyone in the crowd. This took me a while to understand, so my fights with my mom often revolved around the new five-inch heels I had just purchased that needed to be returned.
3. "Selfie Stick"
Whenever your friends want to take a selfie, you become the designated "selfie stick." You stand in the front and reach out your long arms because, otherwise, how could everyone fit?
4. The Class Pictures
Despite only being eight-years-old, you stood in the back row of your class picture and looked more like a teacher than a student.
5. The Shower
Unless you want to have shampoo in your head all the time, you need to bend down in most showers.
6. The Bed
You have come to love sleeping with your legs curled up. Otherwise, you would wake up most mornings with cold feet hanging off the end.
7. The Helping Hand
You are only ever needed in the kitchen when an ingredient is on the top shelf. This special talent of reaching high also comes in handy when you’re in class and the teacher needs someone to turn on the projector.
8. The Jeans
It is nearly impossible to find jeans long enough, unless you buy them extra long. This is why American Eagle Outfitters Online should become your best friend.
9. The Dresses
That cute dress that everyone has from Free People – it’s a shirt on you.
10. The Hopes and Dreams
Your whole life, adults have told you that people love tall girls when they get older. Now you’re older, and waiting for this day to come.
11. The Sports
In addition to people reminding you that you’re tall when they first meet you, they also like to know about your athletic history. Typically, they ask, “Do you play basketball? No? What about volleyball?”
12. The Boys
No boy can be considered unless he is taller than 5’11. Basketball players are preferable, which is why I told my parents I wanted to go to Duke all throughout middle school.
13. Be Proud
Despite
these struggles, embrace your height because it’s something that won’t change and
although Kim Kardashian is a model, she’ll never have what you have -- the ability to be a runway model.
