Binge watching is meant for the strong-willed. If you are incapable of watching multiple episodes of your favorite show in one sitting, you are weak and natural selection will eliminate you. No excuse for being unable able to sit through seven consecutive episodes of “Lost.” So many shows but such little time! Not everyone has the capacity to practice the art of binge watching. This is an acquired skill, but perhaps one day the world will understand and we can proudly put it on our resumes.
1. Grey’s Anatomy (11 seasons on ABC)
You need to understand the passion, the pain, and the emotional roller coaster that comes from wanting MerDer together. (Meredith and Derek, duh) This is a show filled with strong and complex characters, beautiful friendships, funny one-liners, and compelling stories. You will become so emotionally invested in these characters that you will wake up wondering where your roommates from Seattle Grace are. Plus, Cristina Yang always says what we are all thinking.
2. Lost (6 seasons on ABC)
Be warned. This show is addicting, and you will genuinely fear the very worst. That the others are going to capture you in your daily life. You can get through these episodes faster than you think. As John Locke would say, “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” In this show, Survivors of a plane crash must work together to stay alive on an island that is not what you would expect it to be. It gets weird.
3. Pretty Little Liars (6 seasons on ABC Family)
Don’t get me started. One episode. 45 minutes. That is the amount of time it took for my life to become consumed by the mystery of A. My mission in life was to discover who the hell was sending those mysterious texts and if Alison DiLaurentis truly was dead. I am pretty confident that people thought I was speaking of real people when mentioning his show in public. Hanna, Spencer, Aria, and Emily are real people right? Mystery, drama, strong friendships and characters. This is a show that will take over your life and once it does you will not have wanted it any other way.
4. Awkward (5 seasons on MTV)
Love triangles, characters that you love to hate, and dumb storylines that somehow make you laugh. You will watch the first episode and rant about how much you can't stand it, then find yourself halfway through the next season.
5. One Tree Hill (9 seasons on the CW)
This is such a meaningful show. Watching this show changed me. Youll feel that you are experiencing the story with the characters. Brooke Davis is incredible, and she grows so much throughout the seasons. Before starting One Tree Hill, I was frustrated that it would take a long time to get through all 9 seasons. I am now grateful because I never wanted the story to end. This show shows really significant relationships, and it makes you to truly care for the characters. You grow up with them. The show can go from dark to light within minutes. One thing it never fails to do is entertain. Nathan and Haley are also a beautiful couple.
6. Parks and Recreation (7 seasons on NBC)
This show never fails to make me laugh. It is hilarious and entertaining. It will reel you in from the very first episode. How can a show with both Amy Poehler and Aubrey Plaza be anything less? The characters in this show are also very passionate about breakfast food. It's refreshing to have a show that sees what truly matters in life.
7. Bones (11 seasons on Fox)
Don't even bother reading this. Go watch it all right now. This show offers viewers mystery, drama, and light moments, but also shows important relationships and character development throughout the series. Temperance Brennan is the lead, and she is able to solve just about any case given to her. She is a genius, and she knows it. Temperance does not understand that it isn't appropriate to point that fact out, and it never fails to crack me up when she informs everyone that she is smarter than them. You will be driven slightly crazy by her relationship with Booth and how it is not progressing as quickly as you would like. Her friendship with Angela is also a crucial aspect of the show. Bones will make you cry, smile, and leave you in immense anticipation for what is going to happen next.
8. The 100 (2 seasons on the CW)
This show is relatively new. I saw the first episode on Netflix this Summer and finished both seasons faster than I care to admit. The world that this show takes place in is mystical. You have never see Earth like this before. The show takes place 97 years after a nuclear war wiped out Earth's population. There are survivors in space that are living in "The Ark." However, 100 of these people must find out if Earth is survivable. The premise is unique and reminds me of the Maze Runner, Lost, and the Hunger Games all at once.
9. Friends (10 seasons now on Netflix)
This show is a wonderful and hilarious classic. Anything that comes out of Phoebe or Joey's mouth is hysterical. If you are looking for a comedy with short episodes, this is it.
10. Supernatural (11 seasons on the CW)
If you know of a demon that needs to be hunted, Dean and Sam Winchester are your guys. You will love and root for nearly every character on this show, even the bad ones. These characters are layered and each episode tells a gripping story. The moments in the episodes vary from being sad to comical to intense. One thing is for sure, Supernatural will never bore you.
11. Degrassi (14 seasons on Teen Nick)
This show has been a part of my life since middle school, and it will never disappoint when bringing drama. Also remember that that Drake the rapper once played Jimmy! Degrassi handles many important issues and does not shy away when doing so.
12. Make It Or Break It (3 seasons on ABC Family)
This show just makes me happy. Four friends are training to make the Olympic team. While there is a surplus of drama, there are so many important values that the show holds up. Make It Or Break It will always be a favorite of mine. (Side note: Kaylie Cruz would have absolutely won.)
13. Orphan Black (3 seasons on BBC)
"You
could theoretically watch all 30 episodes in under 24 hours. This show has something for everyone, from
soccer moms to punk rock con artists, science girlfriends to morgue
attendant boyfriends. And there are clones. Tatiana Maslany morphs into almost a dozen different iterations of herself, often playing opposite
herself. This fast-moving sci-fi
thriller is masterfully crafted and the twists and turns keep you
guessing the whole time. Orphan Black is one show not to be missed." - Lily Randall, Muhlenberg College
14. Vampire Diaries (7 seasons on the CW)
There are vampires in Mystic Falls, and Elena Gilbert's life drastically changes after meeting Stefan Salvatore. Her life and the lives of her friends are in danger now that vampires have been welcomed into their world. Caroline Forbes is also kind of amazing. Be careful when getting attached to certain characters. If they're a vampire they can shut their humanity on or off to deal with their heightened emotions. This is another addictive show that you must watch.
