In no particular order, these are the "small victories" of life. They are brief tokens that the simple things in life, the little surprises and unexpected positives, are truly to be appreciated.

1. Getting Extra Food In Your Fast Food Order

Umm, yes please. Whether it’s finding a curly fry in your regular fry order, or receiving an extra value meal, we all know the feeling of free food.

2. Finding The Exact Amount of Loose Change

Most of the time it seems like you don’t have the right amount of change, but the one or two times you find enough quarters or pennies is almost a God-send.

3. Finding Your Phone After Your "Mini" Where's-My-Phone Panic Attack

We’ve all had those “oh my God” moments when we can’t remember where our misplaced phone is. Check your friend who probably has your phone, then your coat and pants pockets, only to realize your phone was hiding in the most convoluted, hidden pocket of your bag. Once that wave of panic disappears, it's smooth sailing.

4. When There’s No Line To The Restroom

It’s not just the relief of being able to use the restroom, it’s the moment you open the door to see no line and, if you’re lucky, an entirely empty restroom.

5. Being Able To Change Clothes After A Long Day

Just had an 8-hour work shift? Grab the sweatpants off the floor, (You know, the ones you had on after yesterday’s shift) climb into bed, and relax; you’ve done enough “adulting” for one day.

6. Seeing An Old Married Couple

Aww, look at those cuties holding hands. Bonus if one of them says “You remind me of when I was your age!” #relationship goals

7. Finding An Old Journal or Diary

Ah yes, the reminder of the awkward teenage years. It’s a moment to laugh at your old self but also a reminder of how far you’ve come since then.

8. When Your Package Finally Arrives

Even though you’ve been tracking it for days now (and you’ve been expecting it to arrive Friday before 8pm) it’s that moment when you come home and find your package waiting on the doorstep. It’s the moment you see your name on the box and can rip it open with the nearest scissor, pen, key, or sharp object you can find.

9. When Your Favorite Song Comes On The Radio

It might even be a throwback you haven’t heard in quite some time or an overplayed song of the top 40s you’ve heard for weeks now. Either way, sing your heart out and enjoy those three minutes of bliss.

10. When You Find a Bargain Deal

You know those items that were incorrectly marked? You know, the ones that are actually an additional 60% off clearance? It’s a sign you need to buy that cute shirt (last in your size in perfect condition) IMMEDIATELY. Yes, your coupon applies as well.

11. When You See Your Food Coming in a Restaurant

This satisfactory moment disregards previous fleeting moments of disappointment when you saw another table’s food being delivered.

12. That Moment You Fall in Love with a Netflix Show

It might not even be the pilot episode of season 1, but it’s that specific episode that makes you say, “yes Netflix, I am still watching” that reminds you true love really does exist…and you found your excuse to not leave the house.

13. The First Sip of Coffee or Tea

And the second sip. And the third sip. And the second and third cups of coffee to follow.

14. When a Baby Smiles at You

No, you can’t take him even though he is the cutest thing in the darn world and you just want to pinch his chubby little cheeks (Human or dog, let’s be real).

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
