14 Reasons Why I Can't Wait For Summer

Only 14 weeks until memorial day!

14 Reasons Why I Can't Wait For Summer
The Daily Heel

Counting down the days until summer. Counting the days until we have the time of our lives. Spending it with friends, family, and strangers. Although many of you may be working countless hours inside, or taking a class or two at a community college, anything is better than taking 17 credits, living in a dorm, and having exams every other week. So, whether you are taking a trip to "the shore," driving 10 minutes to the beach everyday like me, or living it up at the pool, you're bound to have something amazing to look forward to. In honor of the 14 weeks until the official start of the summer season, here are 14 reasons why I can't wait for summer!

1. Gorgeous Sunrises and Sunsets

There's no better feeling than waking up at 5am just to go sit on the beach in the cool sand before the sun comes up. Eating a donut or a bagel hoping the seagulls don't attack you.

2. Quiet Beach Days

Listening to the waves crash upon the wet sand. Watching little kids play in the water. Life feels like it can't get any better. The feeling of having warm sand between your toes and a Wawa hoagie to top it all off.

3. Bonfires

One of my favorite parts of summer is being able to sit outside all night in front of a fire. Although I wouldn't miss being attacked profusely by mosquitos, making s'mores and roasting random food we find is definitely a daily event I look forward to ever summer.

4. Eating Fruit All Day Long

One of the more aspects of summer must be fact that my diet consists strictly of fruit, fruit, and more fruit. Everything is in season and tastes delicious. Pineapple, strawberries, cantaloupe, fruit never tasted so good!

5. Sunny and Warm Everyday

I personally can't wait for it to be warm out every day. Feeling the sun on my skin and tanning instantly are the two things I miss the most during winter time. Say goodbye to the polar vortex and hello to heat waves!

6. Ice Cream!

Chocolate and orange sherbet from Khor Brothers is a dream. You may be thinking that it sounds disgusting but believe me once you try it, you'll never try anything else. Ice cream is possibly the best part about summer except when it melts and begins dripping down your hand. In the meantime, Ill be drinking hot chocolate and tea until it summer.

7. Concerts

One of the my absolute favorite parts about summer is going to as many concerts as I can. These past few years Atlantic City has been hosting summer beach concerts where tens of thousands of people show up to watch artists such as Blake Shelton, Maroon 5, and Rascal Flats just to name a few. The idea of being outside in the warm temperatures is amazing especially when you get to spend it with friends and family that enjoy the atmosphere along with you.

8. Cruising the Boardwalk

Living 10 minutes from two of the most popular resort towns on the east coast, theres always something to do in the summer. Walking up and down the boardwalk, watching fireworks on the beach, and going on rides at the various amusement parks are some of the best experiences I had growing up and even now as a college student.

9. Night Swimming Every Night

Swimming in the dark under the moonlight or even just the little lamp on the wall of the pool, is bound to create endless memories for you and your friends. The water on your skin and the cool air don't always seem to mix, so when you get out make sure you go run inside or for a towel!

10. Shorts and Tank Top Weather!

I'm one of those people that would probably wear shorts all year round if I could. It feels especially nice though wearing just a tank top and shorts all the time and not having to worry about hats, gloves, and scarves before you enter the tundra.

11. Having the Sunroof Open

Sadly my car does not have a sunroof, but surely whenever I drive with my friends either the top of their jeep is off or the sunroof is wide open letting in the air and sun. Note to self: Put hair in a ponytail before attempting

12. Sleeping in Everyday

Probably won't be me too often this year with work and all the other things I do, but compared to when I wake up now, summer will be a breeze when I get to wake up at 10am on my days off. No more early practices or classes!

13. No Guilt Netflix and Chill

Watching Netflix during the semester is proven disastrous since all I want to do is continue binge watching my favorite series instead of studying for exams or doing homework. I can't wait for the lazy days where I have absolutely nothing to do besides sit in bed and watch episodes of "Breaking Bad," "Orange is the New Black," or "Grey's Anatomy!"

14. Flip Flop Weather

Let those feet breathe! They have been cooped up inside boots, sneakers, and closed-toed shoes for months. Wearing flip flops all day everyday is the least you can do for your feet! Feeling sand between your toes and not having to worry about heavy socks and toe warmers is going to be great!

14. NO HOMEWORK!

A world without exams, homework, and class sounds like a great place to live! I can't wait for the end of my final exams and the start to an amazing summer!

So while you may be dreading that exam you neglected to study for this week, you have a homework assignment that you just can't stand to complete, or you feel like you just can't get through another day of classes, just remember that in 14 weeks all the stress from classes will be over and we can all focus on having an amazing summer!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
