" Gilmore Girls" is one of those shows I turn to when I've had a lousy day. Sad? Watch "Gilmore Girls." Stressed? Watch "Gilmore Girls." Grumpy? You know what I'm going to say next. So, what exactly is it about this show that makes it so comforting?
1. Stars Hollow
Everyone who watches "Gilmore Girls" wishes they could live in Stars Hollow; the town of wacky characters, Luke's diner and a friendly atmosphere. If only it wasn't fictional.
2. Lorelei and Rory's relationship
Their relationship is the whole reason the show is a classic. They have the best, sweetest dynamic, and it's always fun to watch them interact in every episode.
3. The comforting constants
There are just things you can count on being in almost every "Gilmore Girls" episode. There will always be Friday night dinners. Lorelei and Rory will always go to Luke's for coffee. Paris will always be super extra. There's a comfort in these constants.
4. The lovable characters
Kirk, Luke, Sookie, Michel, Taylor, Babette, Miss Patty, Lane - the list goes on and on!
5. The romance
I guess liking the romantic parts depends on what season it is and who your favorite couples are. For instance, the Lorelei/Jason romance was the worst, but Luke/Lorelai is ultimate goals. Don't even get me started on Rory's boyfriends.
6. The friendships
My sister and her BFF have matching mugs that read, "You're the Lorelei to my Sookie" and vice versa. Honestly, the best-friendships on this show are such an inspiration.
7. The sets
Some of the settings are so homey and familiar, like Luke's Diner and Lorelei and Rory's house. It's like going home!
8. The early 2000s nostalgia
The early 2000s vibe gives a person a very nostalgic feel, from the clothes to the references. Additionally, Lorelei is always serving looks, so that's nice, too.
9. The fast talk
You know she probably said that paragraph in about seven seconds. I don't know half of what Lorelei is saying, partly due to her speed and obscure references, but as confusing as the blur of words is, it's a nice and funny blur of words.
10. The coffee
Since Lorelei and Rory talk about coffee every five minutes, it makes you want to drink coffee while you watch, and what's cozier than watching "Gilmore Girls" while cradling a hot cup of coffee in your hands?
11. The theme song
Even when I've binged 12 episodes in a row, I still never want to skip the song. Such a nice tune, and it's so fun to sing every single word that you've now memorized by heart.
12. The comedy
There's always something light-hearted and funny going on, whether it's Kirk creating his own black and white movie, or Paris roaming all over Stars Hollow barefoot looking for a payphone.
13. The family
I know Richard and Emily have their issues, but when they, Rory and Lorelei are all getting along, it's super cute.
14. Familiarity
Finally, the biggest and best reason "Gilmore Girls" cheers me up after a long day is because of its familiarity. I've seen it all the way through at least twice, and I've been watching it for years. Also, it makes me think of all the times I've watched it with my big sister and my mom. When I watch the show about family, I think of my own. It makes me feel good every time.
