It's crazy to think that most of us are halfway through our summer! As much as we love getting to spend time at home, it can get a bit boring from without being able to see all of our friends 24/7. If you're getting a little bit sick of your daily routine of sitting by the pool all day and watching Netflix all night, here's a few ways you can combat that summer boredom!
1. Go for a hike.
Hiking is a great way to clear your mind and get closer to nature. Pretty much every city or town has at least one hiking trail to explore. Grab some friends and take some time to exercise in the great outdoors!
2. Have a sprinkler day.
Sprinklers aren't just for little kids! Turn on the sprinklers in your yard or buy a fun, cheap one from target and have a blast! Extra points if you break out the Slip-N-Slide or some water balloons.
3. Have a movie marathon.
Go to your local Redbox and rent a bunch of movies (they're only $1 after all) or have all of your friends bring their favorite DVD. This is a great way to kill time on a rainy day and catch up on movies you didn't have time to see during the school year!
4. Eat a picnic lunch.
Pack up some sandwiches and snacks and head to your local park for a fun time! Sure, it might get buggy, but who doesn't get excited about a picnic?!
5. Go shopping in the city.
Whether its NYC or the city that's half an hour from your house, head somewhere that isn't just the mall. You'll find tons of stores you don't have at home, which means getting clothes that your friends don't have already. Score!
6. Go to an amusement park.
Whether it's Six Flags or the local amusement park that's been around for over 100 years, no one can say no to a day of roller coasters and the tilt-a-whirl.
7. Do some outdoor yoga.
Chances are one of your local parks has an outdoor yoga program. This is a great way to relax your mind, do some exercise, and get your daily dose of vitamin D! If you can't find a program near you, you can always grab your yoga mat and head to your yard with friends!
8. Have a craft day.
Pull up Pinterest and try some of the crafts you've had pinned for forever! This is another great rainy day idea, and a fun way to make new dorm room decorations for the fall!
9. Host an obstacle course Olympics.
With the Olympics rapidly approaching, everyone is in the athletic spirit! Set up an obstacle course in your yard, invite your friends, pick teams (extra points if everyone dresses up like the country they're playing for), and hold a medal ceremony for the winners!
10. Try new recipes.
Have you been drooling over some of the Tasty videos you've seen on Facebook? A rainy day is the perfect time to try them! You can make a bunch during the day, and your family will definitely thank you.
11. Have a "typical" sleepover.
Invite some friends over for a movie-esque sleepover. Paint your nails, do your hair, play board games, watch scary movies or rom-coms and eat pizza and popcorn. Extra points if you pull an all-nighter!
12. Go to a carnival.
Pretty much every town has at least one carnival during the summer. Stuff your face with cotton candy and corn dogs and ride the Zipper until you feel sick. This is the quintessential summer activity!
13. Go on a road trip.
Whether it's to the beach, a monument or a national park, head out with some friends for a road trip! You can find tons of lists online of places you need to visit in your state. Find one you haven't been to and check it out!
As much as we love the freedom that comes with summer, sometimes all the time we have on our hands gets wasted. Hopefully this list gave you some ideas on how to avoid boredom during this last half of the summer!
