This past year has been full of unfortunate events.
Unfortunate isn't even the right word. Tragic, life-changing, unforgettable events. All of this has taught my family and friends to be grateful.
Life is kind of a funny thing sometimes. Everyone walks around thinking bad things are never going to happen to them. It'll never be you, your parents, or your friends. But then it is.
These are things you need to remember to do every single day and if not every day at least once a week. Make sure everyone you know understands how much you need them in your life. Here's how to live happy every single day.
1. Hug your mom, dad and siblings every day.
John Mayer says it best in his song "Stop This Train." "One generation's length away from fighting life out on my own."
2. Always say "I love you" when you're walking out the door.
Leaving mad, sad or in a rush. Always, always, always say it.
3. Don't ever go to bed mad at someone.
It affects them just as much as it affects you.
4. Pick your battles.
5. Compliment someone daily.
Even if it is awkward. It could change someone's entire day.
6. Accept the compliments given to you.
If a person goes out of their way to compliment you let them know you appreciate it.
7. Keep up with your friends from the past.
They are fighting battles, too. Sometimes it's nice to just catch up and let them know you're still thinking about them.
8. Talk to people when you're having a bad day.
Holding everything in is the most unhealthy thing you can do.
9. Don't depend on nights out to make everything go away.
Guess what? When you wake up life still hasn't changed.
10. Wake up every day with a purpose.
When you feel like you've accomplished things, it's going to be an awesome day.
11. Don't compare yourself to others.
You were made just the way you are for a reason. Embrace it. Love yourself.
12. Don't speak negatively of others.
You don't want people speaking negatively of you.
13. Forget the people who don't allow you to live up to your highest potential.
I never thought I would say it, but Miley said it best.
