13 Thoughts We All Have On The First Day Of School
You Visit

So here we are. Summer has come to a close and it's the beginning of a new school year. There's excitement, there's nerves, there's homework; you know how it goes. That very first day of school is essential; it's the one time all year long you'll have the energy to get up early, do your makeup and enjoy some breakfast. It's the one time you'll actually use your planner and you'll tell yourself, "Wow, this will be the year I'm finally organized!" And of course, it's the time that everyone is back in action- your friends, your crush, your frenemies, and your teachers are all back and fired up for the whirlwind ahead.

1. First and foremost every student has that night before the first day when panic mode sets in and you are running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

You turn on some music, charge your electronic devices, do your laundry and pack your shiny new pens and notebooks into your new backpack.

2. The next day the alarm goes off and you have a mini meltdown because you haven't been up before 10 a.m. since school got out last May.

This has to be illegal, right? Like, this is straight up child abuse.

3. You're determined to look 100 percent for that first day so people will think "DANG SHE GLOWED UP THIS SUMMER!"

So your countertop becomes a war zone of makeup and face creams. You don't understand, I have to look like I somehow learned voodoo this summer and magically switched bodies with Beyonce, take cover.

4. You have been planning your outfit for DAYS.

MONTHS even. You were born to rock the crap out of this "first day of school" outfit. Slay all day.

5. The second you get into your first class, you are on the prowl for who's gonna show up.

Who's in this class? Are there any hotties? Who looks like they are going to get an A? I'm moving over by them. I could literally be a professional spy right now, I am scoping this place out.

6. It's lunch time and you are KILLING the game.

You look fierce, you're reunited with your besties, and there's food---this is great. So far, so good.

7. Oh no! Food coma!

You need a nap and you need it now. HALP someone hook me up with an IV of espresso RIGHT. NOW. This is not a drill.
8. OK, real talk: who's gonna be my new crush this year??

New year, new me; and it's time to find a new bae. It's the first day of school and you're checking out more people than a Target cashier on Black Friday.

9. There's always that one class that you had NO idea there was a summer assignment. How was I supposed to know that we had a 10 page essay due on the first day?? It was summer, did you actually expect me to check my email?? Luckily the teacher isn't collecting them for another 10 minutes so you have some time to type up the ROUGHEST of rough drafts.

10. You get to your next class and what you thought was a guaranteed blow off course proves to be a reading intensive subject from hell. Every jaw in the room drops to the floor as the teacher passes out a syllabus the size of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

11. The teacher has a "no snacking" policy.

12. But then, when you thought there was no saving this afternoon...
your best friend/ soul sister/ brother from another mother/ partner in crime/ yin to your yang, walks into the classroom.

13. And finally, victory. Congrats, man. You did it. You made it. First day of school is COMPLETE and you totally owned it. One day down, 179 to go!!!!!

Have a great school year, dudes!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
