Thirteen Things That Hold True If You're A Tewksbury Native

Tewksbury may seem like just another small suburban town in Massachusetts, but it has it's own little quirks.

1. Jimbos.

Just about everyone in Tewksbury knows Jimbos is the famous place of the Redmen Special and is equally famous with the teenagers in town.

2. Livingston.

Whether you liked it or not, just about everybody did some sport on the Livingston Street Fields. And if you didn't, I'm sure you were playing on the playground across the street.

3. Deli King.

Granted, Tewksbury has multiple breakfast places through out, but nothing beats the meal you can get at Deli King.

4. Traffic on 38.

Main Street in the evening is a pain. You know if it's past 5 o'clock and you have to travel on 38, you're in trouble because the light at Main and Shawsheen holds just about everyone up in their daily travels.

5. Motel Caswell.

Ahh. Motel Caswell. The place no one dared to go.

6. Redmen.

I know recently our name has been questioned, and almost changed, but there's nothing like being a proud Redmen, and that won't be taken away from us.

7. Fireworks From The Market Basket Parking Lot.

I'm sure at some point in your childhood years, and maybe even still, you sat in the parking lot of Market Basket on Main Street seeing that it has a perfect view of the fireworks on 4th of July

8. Perfecto's.

We all know deep down that perfecto's coffee is actually way better than Dunkin Donuts.

9. Wameset Lanes.

I know this is new, but it seems to be very popular with the people in town, with bowling and great food. And it did take the long overdue spot of Motel Caswell.

10. Tewksbury High School.

I know not everyone goes/ went to the high school that is from Tewksbury, but this is definitely something that is important to the people in our town. Just being granted a brand new school a few years ago, the new high school is something that members of Tewksbury are proud of.

11. Sports.

Just like people being proud of the high school, we're definitely proud of the sports that come along with it. Football being the most popular amongst us in Tewksbury, but that's not saying that people here aren't proud of every sport in town, from youth league all the way up to high school.

12. Tewksbury vs. Wilmington.

Our biggest rivalry is with the next town over, Wilmington. You know how competitive we are when it comes down to the annual Thanksgiving Day Game against them, even holding a pep rally at the high school the day before. And my I say, Tewksbury always dominates.

13. You correct people when they pronounce our town wrong.

It bothers you to no end when people pronounce our town 'Tuks-bury' instead of 'Tooks-bury' and you're constantly correcting them as a joke but secretly you don't think it's funny.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
