Many say college is the time of your life. It is when you finally live on your own and learn how the real world is. You make mistakes (lots of them), but you also learn an abundant amount as well. Everyone's college experience is unique, and every college has similar yet different atmospheres. Going to Shippensburg can definitely be a unique experience. If you went to Shippensburg, I'm sure these are just some of the things you have came to know during you time here.
1. Steelers fan, Ralph, can be seen all the time around town.
You'll see him at Sheetz, by the diner, or walking near Creekside or Madison. No matter where you see him, you feel a little uncomfortable, but you laugh because there isn't a day he isn't in his Steelers gear.
2. Everyone goes to Shippensburg Select Diner at least once a week.
The food is good, cheap, and one of the best places to satisfy those 2 a.m cravings. It's also the place to go when everyone is hungover,
3. A holiday for everything!
From "Statewide" to "Strike Season" to "Day Drink" to "Summer Party," there are lots of "holidays" created.
4. Petting the puppies!
Everyone goes to the Chambersburg Pet Store at least once a year to pet the puppies. You can always find a picture on instagram when someone goes!
5. Sheetz is always busy.
Whether you're a Wawa or Sheetz person, everyone goes to Sheetz. It's within walking distance, a great place to grab greasy food late at night, and a good place to go after having a cold one. After this past year, those of age can now even buy some wine. This is probably why there is always a line.
6. Dunkin on Sundays? Nope, out of luck.
Whether you like them for their food or love them for there coffee, you despise them for not being open on Sundays. They should know Sundays is when students are finishing up their homework for the week and need to refuel with Dunkin Donuts.
7. Starbucks is a struggle as well.
Starbucks is just as popular as Dunkin Donuts which means it is just as busy. You have to almost schedule Starbucks into your planner. There is no way you could grab a drink to go without standing in line.
8. Raider Bowls.
You know what everyone with be eating on campus on Wednesdays; Raider Bowls at the CUB. I don't think anyone has a clue why they are necessarily called Raider Bowls. Who knew mashed potatoes, corn, chicken, gravy, and cheese mixed together could be so good?
9. The Ezra Lehman Memorial Library should be open 24/7, and it is packed during Finals Week.
Oh the wonderful assistance the library provides, yet doesn't. You will be sure to find regulars in the library, but when finals week comes everyone flocks there. It just makes the regulars even more stressed. I guess the bright side is that there is free cookies during that time. Also, we will never understand why the library isn't open 24/7.
10. Everyone knows about The Rape Stairs.
We all know the infamous rape stairs. Not 100% on how the name was coined, but everyone assumes it is because it seems like it was once a creepy set of stairs where anything bad could happen. Don't worry though, lots of people use the stairs when walking to and off campus. Plus there is even an emergency button next to them for convenience.
11. The ice cream machine in Reisner is always broken.
What college kid doesn't love ice cream? Too bad we can't have any since the ice cream machine is always broken (just like McDonalds). And the only time it is "magically" fixed is when there are open houses. There is no way then that we want to go to Reisner during a open house.
12. The two guys who pass out mini Bibles.
Avoid the CUB at all times on these days. Almost once a week there is always two older gentleman who sit in the CUB and hand out small Bibles to anyone who passes by. You could even walk by them 2 minutes after the fact and they will still try to give you another.
13. The Quad on a nice day is the ultimate battle.
Whenever it is a gorgeous day outside the size of students on campus seems to mysteriously double. It also becomes a battle over chairs in the quad since everyone seems to want to study outside. You may even need to battle it out for a table outside of the CUB.
