In today's society, females, specifically young women, are expected to meet somewhat unrealistic standards of having the perfect winged eyeliner and hair that's never out of place with a size two waist and be super thin... but unfortunately that's so far out of reach to 90 percent of American teenage girls. Girls will go to extremes to try to achieve those standards and unfortunately end up harming themselves in the long run. On that note, here's what I have to say to all of you teenage girls out there.
1. There's so much power in wearing sweatpants.
Being comfortable in what you're wearing is the first step to being comfortable with yourself. Plus it's the closest thing to feeling like you're still in bed while you're at school.
2. Eat the extra slice of pizza. It's good for your soul.
I don't care what Vogue says about pizza calories or what crazy diet you found online. You want that last slice? You eat it. And love every second of it. You'll be happier with the pizza in your hand than you will be with a celery stalk, I promise.
3. You don't need to cake on makeup.
Don't get me wrong, I probably have thousands of dollars of makeup and use it extremely often. But what you need to understand is that less is more, you don't need hundreds of layers on your face. Caked on makeup is noticeable, no matter how well you blend everything with that $50 Sephora beauty blender.
4. Calling your parents just to say "hello" is cool.
5. It's OK for people not to like you.
You weren't put on this Earth to please everybody, and everyone is also entitled to their own opinions of people, places, and things. As long as you love yourself that's all that matters.
6. Muscle tone and thick thighs are beautiful.
Just because models in your favorite stores and magazines have zero body fat doesn't mean you should. Have meat on your bones. In fact, tone that meat and love your muscles. Love your non existent thigh gap, it catches the food that misses your mouth.
7. It's OK to have tiny tits.
Don't stuff your bra for a date with your monthly crush. You don't need to wear your Victoria's Secret Bombshell bra every day. Want to know the best part about being in the Itty Bitty Titty Committee? YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH NOT WEARING A BRA! HA!
8. Being single is actually wonderful.
You're going to think it's the end of the world when your boyfriend breaks up with you, but I promise you'll be okay. You're young, dont worry about a solid love life until you're in your late 20's anyways.
9. Laughing obnoxiously is not embarrassing.
You may think your laugh is ugly or annoying, but, trust me, it's anything but that. Theres nothing embarrassing about enjoying something and laughing about it. Laugh from your belly, cackle, snort; I promise your laugh is beautiful.
10. Listen to your mother.
She's always going to ask hundreds of questions that you've probably already answered, but she's only looking out for you. She wants nothing but the best for you, so take her advice, and listen to her when she speaks. It might get annoying but she loves you most.
11. The group of "popular" girls doesn't really exist.
The girls that you think are so popular are really just nasty girls. Ask any other people, they're mean. So with that being said, stay true to who you are; don't lose your personality trying to fit in.
12. Wearing your hair in a bun is normal.
And one last piece of advice:
Every young girl in this generation seems to be so willing to give away their love like it's some sort of toy. They give away so much that they forget who they really need to love: themselves. Loving yourself and being happy gives you so much confidence and power over anybody who tries to bring you down. Rule the world like I know you can.
