Happy Belated National Middle Child Day! Chances are you probably didn't even know that day existed and mainly because it involves middle children. Middle children are like those pants that sometimes fit, but almost never do. Being the middle child doesn't just stink. It reeks, badly. If you are a middle child, you know these signs all-too-well.
1 . You are a varsity third-wheeler.
Your siblings aren't even dating, but when you're all out, it most certainly feels like it.
2. You can never set your own standard.
Your parents expect you to miraculously follow the tracks of your older siblings while setting a good enough example for your younger ones. But what is good enough?
3. You always take the blame.
You're the first to be told on no matter what it is, no matter where you are, and no matter what you were doing. You don't even dare to claim that it wasn't you—no one ever believes you anyway.
4. You rarely buy new things.
Whether it be calculators and shoes or necklaces and cars, you're always getting your siblings' second-hand stuff. Really, who needs a new outfit when your older sister's fits just fine?!
5. You rarely get a chance to talk.
You have a better chance winning the lottery than getting a moment to speak at dinner.
6. You question whether or not you were adopted at least three times a day.
...and you wouldn't be surprised if you were.
7. You are a master at controlling your emotions.
The fear of getting picked on by your siblings is so real that you decide to keep it all in.
8. In a sad, but comforting way, you spent much of your adolescence with friends and their families.
Sometimes your own family would forget you're gone.
9. You are the most independent person in your family.
Your deepest thoughts and most brilliant ideas come out of these times you spend alone.
10. You always get caught in the middle of sibling fights.
This is when it gets awkward.
11. You understand the beauty of hard work.
You work hard to get what you want. Even then you are not always recognized.
12. The best part of all is you know how to make something great out of the inexplicable feeling of being a middle-child.
You'll always talk about how much you hate it, but, at the end of the day, there's so much to love about it.
