13 Reasons Why You Should Live With Your Sorority Sisters

Going into my sophomore year of college, I'm not going to lie: I was a little apprehensive about living with all my sorority sister's in the sorority dorms on campus. However, only a week in, I can already tell you that it has been one of the best decisions that I have made at my school! Here are a few reasons why you should 100% live with your sisters.

1. Need a purple striped giraffe button up shirt paired with a pink tutu for a frat party? Don't worry, one of the sisters in your hall is bound to have at least one of the two, if not both!

A perk of living with your sorority sisters is that every single one of them will most likely have whatever you are looking for! It is amazing what a group of girls can come up with when living together because packing for college becomes a constant "but what if Chad from that one frat invites me to that one party I never have an outfit for?" It's amazing.

2. If you ever need someone to stay in with and do a fun craft or a movie night, you are bound to find a sister to do it with.

Sometimes, you just really don't feel like hitting the town for the night after an extra long week of classes behind you. But it's okay because when you have a giant pledge class of girls to live with, there is always a group of girls who are down for a night in to make blankets, watch movies, and eat popcorn and cookies all night!

3. When you leave your door open when in your room, it is inevitable that one of your sisters will walk in and just sit and talk to you for the next hour.

You will never be lonely in your sorority dorm or house. With more than 60 new sisters in your life, you will find girls constantly walking into and out of your dorm every night when you come back home. It's like having a sleepover every single night of the school year and so different from those freshman year dorms we were so used to in which everyone was so awkward toward each other!

4. If you are having a bad day or need someone to vent to or simply give you a hug, you know you can find that person in your sisters.

When you accept your bid on bid day, you automatically get 60+ new sisters and friends. And these girls want to be there for you through the ups and the downs. So when you come home from class and just have a bad day, it is the best feeling to walk into a sisters' room and just get a hug from that one sister you have formed a special bond with. It's also the best when a whole group of you come together and spend an hour venting up a storm about a chapter meeting, a common class, or whatever else is on your mind! It really makes you feel so much better!

5. When you do get all dressed up to go out with friends or sisters, you will most certainly be told by every sister you pass in the hall how great you look.

Living with your sorority sisters can be such a major confidence booster because your sisters will never miss an opportunity to tell you how much you are rocking that outfit! Common phrases that are heard are "damn girl, you look hot!" or "Yes girl you rock that outfit!"

6. You will never have to eat another meal alone.

Whether you have a house chef or live on campus with your sisters and still go to dining halls, you will always have someone to eat with. A quick text in the pledge class group chat can get you a meal buddy in minutes!

7. You have in-house tutors.

With so many amazing and smart girls living under one roof, you are bound to find a sister who just so happens to be a master at that one subject that you are just struggling too much with. Sisters helping sisters a beautiful thing.

8. You get to know every member of your pledge class.

Going into my sophomore year of living with my sorority sisters, I wasn't sure if I could meet all the members of my pledge class and be friends with all of them. But I can assure you that only three weeks into the school year, I have already met almost all (if not all) of the girls in my pledge class and love them all like biological sisters. I would highly recommend!

9. You always have a study buddy.

It can be so hard to study on your own and stay disciplined. So what could be better than having a sister holding you accountable to do all your work? If you each take the others' phones, it is nearly impossible to get distracted (until you start talking of course).

10. Need help with an errand or need to print off a paper but don't want to walk all the way to the library? No worries, a sister has you covered.

Your sisters literally have anything you could possibly need. Need a printer to print off that resume before Career Fair? Check! Really craving some chocolate because it's that time of the month again? Double check! Your sisters have everything.

11. You will always have someone to walk to class with.

I know for me, this was a huge struggle of freshman year, especially in the beginning. Now, there is always someone heading to the same building for class! And what's even better? There is such a high chance of having a sister in your class, either in your pledge class or one above you! You will never have to suffer through a class alone again!

12. You make a whole lot of new forever friends.

The bonds you make with the sisters you live with are ones that will last forever. Those long nights of sitting in each others' rooms doing homework or having deep conversations will be with you for a lifetime. The sisters you have made now are sisters for life!

13. You become part of something much bigger than just yourself.

By being a member of this Greek organization and even by living with your sorority sisters, you become part of something that is so much bigger than yourself. You become part of a legacy of sisters before you and keep adding to that legacy every day. Together, you and your sisters change the world through your sisterhood, philanthropy, and daily actions. Not only do you become part of your specific chapter, but you also suddenly become a member of the greater campus Panhellenic community and even a member of the national Greek family as well!

So, if you are one the edge about living with your sorority sisters, 100% do it. It is such an amazing experience and you will make friends with people you may have never pictured yourself with. It's good to step outside your comfort zone and try something new. Trust me, I did and I have never looked back since. Savor this time with your sisters and don't let it go by too fast!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
