13 Reasons I'm Excited For Summer
Charles Richard Joseph

It’s a bird; it’s a plane, it's summer! Yes, folks, summer is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited. We are slowly but surely getting there and heck who knows what’s in store for us this year. Summer puts me in my element, mainly because each and every year it’s just as spontaneous as the last summer; and it keeps getting better and better. If you’re like me y’all, you can’t contain your excitement as well. Here are 13 reasons why I’m ready for summer 2k16.

1. Warm Weather

Sunny and 75 could never feel more right. We could always use the extra vitamin-D anyways. Warm weather can send chills up my spine faster than any ex-spotting. This is the baseline of summer, and we totally dig it.

2. Less Clothes

I could lounge all day wearing the bare necessities. However unlike winter, during summer, the clothes are just much more flowy and free. I hate wearing jackets out during the other seasons because that’s just something else you have to keep up with, and lord knows I barely have a hold of myself. Bring on the shorts, tank tops and sandals.

3. Drinks Taste Better

“I’ll have a bourbon and coke, please”. Bourbon is good any time of year, but when it's blazing hot outside there is nothing better to keep you up on your toes. Booze and Heat go together like macaroni and tomato. “Actually, I’ll have an extra shot of bourbon too.”

4. Universities are on Summer Break

We all school too hard during the year. Now is the time to kick back and relax man. Granted we take many breaks throughout the year, but this one definitely hits the spot.

5. Lounging by the Pool

One of my absolute favorite things to do is lay by the pool and not have a care in the world. Put on some music and just feel the moment. Bring along your favorite beverage and you’re practically having your own party.

6. VACATION

Sure we take spring break trips and some people go to formal, but vacation is a guaranteed good time. Summer vacation is my favorite because I don’t have a care in the world, and that’s the way I like it.

(Oh that is Folly Beach above, SC; totally recommend)

7. Wedding Season

Summer is the most popular season to have a wedding. It’s warm, it’s beautiful, and naturally everyone is already in a good mood because of the prior 6 reasons I just mentioned. I’m attending four weddings this summer, how many are you attending?

8. Outside Parties && BBQ's

You had me at barbecue. There’s just something about not being enclosed in an area where you can run wild and free. Bring a volleyball and spike it in your brother's face. I’ll bring the Kool-Aid, and no promises it won’t be spiked too.

9. Baseball Games

America’s favorite past time, what can I say it’s one of my favorites too.

Need I say more?

10. Independence Day

Those Brits had no idea who they were messin’ with. We got what we wanted and we’re still celebrating nearly 240 years later. Throw on your patriotic attire, pop open a Budweiser and shoot off some bottle rockets. Merica’

11. Gardening

This is a very therapeutic thing to do when you just need to clear your mind, which is at least every day for me. Growing your own crops and canning them later, calls for a good supper. Ali, I’ll take some green beans please!

12. Catch up with Friends

“Hey, long time no chat, how are you?” We all get carried away being employed and full-time college students. Summer is the perfect time to have lunch with someone you haven’t heard from in a while.

13. Hammock Chillin'

Kick back and feel the warm breeze, there is nothing better than chillin’ in your hammock; especially during the summer time.

(Get one if you don't have one)

Summer has got me feelin’ some type of way y’all. The countdown to summer 2016 has officially BEGUN. Prepare yourselves ladies and gentleman! Fasten your seat belts, you’re guaranteed for a good time. Have a cold one for me and remember it really doesn’t get much better than this. Ahhhh, the good life!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
