13 Olivia Pope Quotes To Get You Feeling Empowered

Even though it isn't "Scandal" Thursday (a.k.a. the greatest day of the week), and we don't know what the heck is happening with Olivia and her semi-evil dad, apparently Jake is marrying a rich socialite, and using her money to fund a superpac for Olivia's ex-boyfriend Edison, who is running for President and, apparently, "getting into bed with the devil's father," we can still learn so much from Olivia's most fierce, independent, and empowering quotes.

1. “I am many things; stupid is not one of them.”

Never let anyone make you feel like you’re stupid, you’ve accomplished so much in your life, just take a look around you. You are many things, kind, courageous, strong, well spoken, beautiful, smart, and full of potential. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you don’t have everything going for you.

2. “I am not the girl the guy gets at the end of the movie. I am not a fantasy. If you want me, earn me.”

Retweet. You’re amazing, don’t let anyone, ever forget.

3. “It’s handled.”

Hands down the most famous Olivia Pope quote of all time. Wouldn’t you just love to be that person carrying your whole group project like “don’t worry, its handled”. Well actually, they would probably love it more than you would. I’ll try and come up with a better example next time, promise.

4. “I am very good at what I do. I am better at it than anyone else. And that is not arrogance, that is a fact.”

Don’t be afraid to tell it like it is. We all know Olivia gives 150 percent of herself to her job fixing all the scandalous problems of DC, but scale has nothing to do with it, if you’re going to do something, be great at it, give it 150 percent and never give up.

5. “If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work, but you have to try, because if you try, if you leap and you try, and it doesn’t work out, it’s not on you.”

Well that’s a mouthful, Olivia. But seriously, if you know deep down that you tried you’re hardest and it still doesn’t work out, that’s not on you and you aren’t responsible for carrying that around with you.

6. “Normal is overrated.”

No one wants to be normal anymore, it’s true. Everyone just wants to be Olivia Pope.

7. “My gut tells me everything I need to know.”

We all know that feeling we get when we know something isn’t right (I’d like to think we all come pre-equipped with a really great gut feeling, like Olivia) trust it, you feel bad for a reason and if something isn’t right, trust yourself and do something about it.

8. “I don’t want to talk. I want to eat too many fries and drink way too much wine, and have a relaxing evening.”

Sometimes, you just need to relax, and if that involves eating too much fried food and drinking too much red wine, then so be it. You deserve it, and you can always talk about it tomorrow.

9. “I’m never out of options.”

Keep going, always. Never give up because you have the potential and the drive to finish whatever path you’re on. Just like when Olivia got kidnapped by some fake terrorists, she never ever gave up.

10. “Whatever happens, we do not give up. It is my name on that door, and I do not give up.”

Regardless if you have a door with your name on it or not (cause I sure don’t), never give up, you’re never truly out of options and you’re never truly done fighting for what you want.

11. “I also brought wine, but this is for me. I’m drinking the whole bottle.”

This could mean one of two things in your life: A glass (or a bottle) of wine can fix anything, or I know “sharing is caring” but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t apply to wine.

12. “You can’t change the choice you made, all you can do it not let it ruin you.”

Do you ever lay awake at night replaying one thing you did like 7 years ago in your mind? Well stop, you can’t change it, no matter how small the choice you made was, all we can do is move past it.

13. “I'm choosing me. I’m choosing Olivia. And right now, Olivia is dancing. Now, you can dance with me or you can get off my dance floor. I’m fine dancing alone.”

Choose yourself and don’t let anyone define you. You can always choose to be happy, despite what may be going on around you and if something is not making you happy, choose to dance alone.

And if you’re not quite into "Scandal" yet, it's all on Netflix. Enjoy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
