There are so many great things about Halloween and the whole month of October, but perhaps one of the best is binge watching the Halloween movies. To kickstart your Halloween-themed month, here's a list of the best movies to watch during the month of October.
1. "Halloweentown."
If you had cable as a child, you probably watched Disney Channel. If you watched Disney Channel, you probably watched "Halloweentown." This Disney classic has stood the test of time and is still beloved today. Sit back and relax as you watch Marnie take down the evil sorcerer and embrace her destiny.
2. "Twitches."
Another Disney Channel classic, "Twitches" was entertaining as a kid, and I still have no problem watching it today. I don't know about anyone else, but this movie legitimately scared me when I was younger. Nonetheless, I would still recommend it.
3. "Hocus Pocus."
If you only watch one Halloween movie this year, make sure it's "Hocus Pocus." This movie has the perfect balance of mixing scary with humor which can be enjoyed by both kids and adults alike.
4. "Nightmare Before Christmas."
"We can live like Jack and Sally... and we'll have Halloween on Christmas." Those lyrics from a popular Blink 182 song always remind of this Tim Burton movie. This movie combines the two best holidays, a love story, and memorable songs.
5. "Sleepy Hollow."
Based on the story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, this is just one of many creepy movies Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have collaborated on. Depp plays Ichabod Crane, who goes to the superstitious town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a string of mysterious murders.
6. "The Conjuring."
Based on true events, "The Conjuring" is about a family who moves into a house that's being haunted by an evil witch. I already don't want to live in an extremely old house and this movie solidified that. After watching it for the first time it was safe to say that I hated my basement bedroom for awhile.
7. "Halloween."
This movie almost made me as mad as is it did scare me. Don't get me wrong I closed my eyes out of fear for half of it. At the same time I wondered how Michael Myers was able to walk so slow, yet still catch people running for their lives and kill them. There was a lot of overall screaming at this one.
8. "Carrie."
The original "Carrie" is just downright creepy more than it is scary. You can't help but feel terrible for Carrie; she has to deal with an insanely religious mom at home and the bullies at school. It takes some twisted kids to humiliate someone so timid by pouring pig blood on them at prom, though Carrie gets her revenge on everyone in the end.
9. "Psycho."
Alfred Hitchcock was the master of horror and suspense in his day. This movie introduced us to the troubled Norman Bates which is the inspiration behind the AMC show, The Bates Motel. This movie has some weird twists and the famous shower scene was considered very provocative for its time.
10. "The Shining."
This is hands down the scariest movie I have ever watched. "Redrum" and "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" are two memorable lines from this movie. It's terrifying, but it's a classic with a kind of happy ending, so watch it.
11. "Rocky Horror Picture Show."
I won't lie, this is definitely one of the weirdest I have ever seen, but that's what makes it so great. This cult classic is played in many movie theaters across the nation. Fans dress up as the characters and join in during parts of the movie including at one point throwing toast and doing the famous Time Warp dance.
12. The "Harry Potter" series.
This one doesn't need a long description because there's never a bad time for Harry Potter.
13. "The Addams Family."
They're spooky and they're cooky -- everyone's favorite creepy family. Whether you watch because Gomez and Morticia are oddly romantic couple goals or because Wednesday's dark sense of humor just speaks to your soul, you can never go wrong with the Addam's family. Sure they're unconventional but they do love each other.
Of course, there are plenty more great Halloween movies out there, so start watching and be prepared to scream.
