If you're on the fence about sorority recruitment, I totally get it. I was so nervous about the process of joining that I almost backed out. Being in a sorority is a lot of fun, but it's not all fun. There are tons of life lessons you can learn while being apart of an organization. If you have the impression that sororities are just for girls who like to party and go out, you have so much to learn. Here is a list of some of the amazing things you can learn while being in a sorority.

1. You learn how to communicate better

Recruitment is all about talking. It is the ultimate tool to help you master small talk. This type of experience can help you with job interviews, meeting new people, and much more.

2. You learn how to get along with everyone

Being in a sorority exposes you to different types of people. Some you may love, and others not so much. But, being apart of an organization teaches you to make friends with people you typically wouldn't.

3. You learn about leadership

Within a sorority, there are various leadership positions. Whether you join the executive board or take a chairman position, you will be able to do great things. You can gain experience with public relations, member training, business, and plenty of other areas.

4. You learn how to deal with rules

Being in a sorority means you have rules and values to uphold, things like good conduct or passing grades. All of these are in place to make you a better person. I was always encouraged to get good grades, be actively involved, and really make the most out of my sorority experience.

5. You learn how to balance your budget

Sororities aren't cheap. But, they are worth every penny. Being a member means paying dues that go to helping your chapter. Having to keep up with the payments really makes you think about your spending and get used to reoccurring expenses. It's great practice for budgeting things like rent in the future.

6. You learn how to embrace leadership

Your chapter will have an executive board who determines a lot about the chapter. They are people that sometimes make decisions you don't agree with. But, if the majority of the chapter agrees with it, you have to go along with it. This is a great chance to learn about looking at the big picture and not just your own views.

7. You learn how to make an impact

Being in a sorority gives you so many opportunities to get involved and make on impact in your community. Your philanthropy also becomes your biggest motivator. You'll host events throughout the year for your specific philanthropy. It's incredible to see your hard work produce something wonderful in the end.

8. You learn how to build community

Going Greek doesn't just give you friendships in your own sorority. It also creates friendships with other organizations through events like Greek Week or joint philanthropy fundraisers. You learn all about being in a community of different organizations and working together with other groups to do some amazing things.

9. You learn how to dress appropriately

There are many times where a specific attire is called for. This helps you get ready for dressing appropriately for work or interviews in the future. It also gives you the chance to start building up your professional wardrobe early on.

10. You learn how to speak up

There comes a time where the chapter asks for opinions or is changing something where member input is incredibly important. This is your time to say your part and be heard. Speaking up when you have something to say, if done at the appropriate time, is always a good thing.

11. You learn when to be quiet

Just as there is a time for speaking up, there is a time for staying silent. Some thoughts are best kept to yourself. When important things are happening, you don't need to cause trouble. Keep your opinions about a new policy change to yourself if they're negative.

12. You learn how to mentor

Everyone's favorite part about joining a sorority is getting their big or their little. This relationship will teach you how to be a mentor. Your role as a big is to help your little learn the in's and out's of being in your chapter. It's all about helping them adjust and giving them someone to lean on.

13. You learn how to love your chapter

Becoming apart of something bigger than yourself gives you the opportunity to fall in love with your organization. There is so much to love about sorority life. It gives you the chance to care for something and truly do your best to make it better.

You'll see all of the girls who came before you and the ones who will be there when you leave. It truly is joining a community that will be with you forever. It's an incredible experience that I wouldn't trade up for anything. I'm so thankful for all of the important lessons that sorority life taught me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
