March is Women's History Month, which is pretty ridiculous since women exist during all 12 months of the year. But since it is a thing, I of course had to turn towards my favorite topic: books. I am constantly bombarded by people, certain people, claiming that there are no successful female authors, that women are underrepresented in the writing sphere, etc. I'm calling bull on that one. Here are 13 great female authors you should read this month.Stop making excuses and just open your eyes.
1. Kiera Cass-The Selection Series
If you love The Bachelor, the Hunger Games, and engrossing books, you'll love The Selection Series and Kiera Cass' other books, including The Siren.
2. Meg Cabot-Remembrance, The Royal Wedding
If you grew up loving the Princess Diaries and Mediator Series by Meg Cabot, you'll love her adult books that continue the story, fit for the audience who has grown up with Princess Mia and Susannah Simon.
3. Victoria Aveyard-Red Queen
Recent years have seen the advent of new stories of royalty, a very different type of royalty, and a new type of dystopia, and Aveyard's Red Queen is the perfect combination of these new recipes. Read it first, then read the rest of the series!
4. Kate Jarvik Birch-Perfected
5. Renee Ahdieh-The Wrath and the Dawn
If you love dystopian novels, you'll love Perfected and its sequel, Tarnished. Kate Jarvik Birch takes a plethora of strings from the young adult dystopian universe and winds them into a completely original and jaw-dropping piece of work.
6. Shannon Hale-Austenland
If you love modern retellings of classic stories, you'll love Renne Ahdieh's retelling of the story we all know as "A Thousand and One Nights" or "Arabian Nights". Ahdieh brings a delightful twist to the story.
7. Anna Godbersen-The Luxe Series
For all lovers of Jane Austen and the Regency era, Shannon Hale's Austeland will leave you desperate for more, which is why the sequel, Midnight in Austenland, is equally as fulfilling and will leave you wanting more. Shannon Hale is also the author of books such as The Actor and The Housewife and Princess Academy.
If you love historical fiction and decadence, you'll love the Luxe series, which blends historical fiction with the kind of drama we find only on Soap Operas or Gossip Girl. The Luxe series is only four books long, but will leave you fully satisfied.
8. Goldy Moldavsky-Kill the Boy Band
This is for everyone that has ever been obsessed with a boy band, whether Dream Street, the Jonas Brothers, or One Direction. This is for everyone who was inspired by the movie Taking 5 or Stuck in the Suburbs. This is for teenage girls everywhere, whether they're still teenagers or not.
9. Jessica Love-In Real Life
I'm not sure how this book hasn't been written yet, but it must be read. Online friendships are something known to us that would have seemed crazy to our parents and generations before, so this book is original, insightful, and a quick and fun read.
10. Katherine Reay-Dear Mr. Knightley
This one is also for the Austen fanatics who are always looking for the Mr Darcy or Mr Knightley in their own lives. If you love characters who, like you, love books more than is safe, this is the answer to your prayers.
11. Rachel Hauck-Once Upon a Prince
If you love princes, royalty, romances, and books that combine the three, you'll love Hauck's books. Warning: It will stir up intense desires to start planning your own royal wedding.
12. Kate Brian-The Private Series
Murder mystery meets Gossip Girl-style drama in these series that follows Reed Brennan, scholarship student, as she heads off to an elite private school. Murder, mayhem, school dances, and stories of magic and witches ensue. I can't recommend this series highly enough.
13. Jodi Picoult-Leaving Time
Jodi Picoult is everything I look for in an author. Each book details a different topic so deeply that we cannot help but be amazed with her amount of research Leaving Time, her most recent novel, takes us from Africa to the US and back, and intertwines the lives of elephants and the humans that care for them in a book that will leave you sobbing and reaching for the next Picoult book you can get your hands on.
