Can you pass the mashed potatoes with less of an attitude? Thanks.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of things that I'm thankful for. There are also quite a few things I dread about the holidays, especially Thanksgiving. I could go on and on about the things I dislike. I'm quite the complainer, so here are the top 13 things I dread about Thanksgiving.

1. Not being able to be myself

A few people in my family don't know about my sexuality, so I have to hide who I am. It feels like crap so I just avoid the whole situation.

2. Having to watch my language

I have the mouth of a sailor, so I have to filter every single word that comes out of my mouth. Then theres the occasional slip up that I sorta just play off with a quick cover up. It's too much work.

3. Being questioned about "cute boys"

No, I don't know any cute boys, but I do know a cute girl.

4. Being surrounded by a bunch of people

I have pretty bad anxiety, so being around a bunch of family makes me feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest.

5. Saying Grace

It's not that I don't believe in God, I'm just not very religious. I sorta just sit there awkwardly staring at the food I can't eat yet.

6. Having to choose which family to celebrate with

No matter who I pick, someone will always end up hurt in the end and I hate hurting people.

7. Not being with my parents

My mom is my best friend and I kinda just really miss my parents.

8. Snarky remarks

I don't know why you thought it was okay to say that, because it's not. No, it was not funny, either.

9. The house being a million degrees

Between all of the people and the cooking, it's too damn hot!

10. Football

Our team usually loses and everyone ends up pretty pissed, but we will also watch every single other game when I'd rather be watching the parade.

11. Talking about my plans for the future

I just don't know, okay? Talking about it just stresses me out more. Ya'll are going to drive me to drink.

12. Traffic

Everybody and their moms are out on the road and they just need to get out of my way.

13. Living near the outlets on Black Friday: I like shopping, but I hate people

I just want to get my deals and get out without being pushed, shoved, or yelled at. That is all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
