14 Childhood Trends You Definitely Participated In

Middle school, elementary school, the time of braces,,glasses, acne, and weird trends. There are always different things being invented that lead to the next fad. It seems as though the era between lets say 2007-2012 was the era of many cringe-worthy trends we all tried out.

1. MySpace

The days of MySpace and Tom. You had a MySpace whether you sneaked an account from your parents or lied about your age when signing up, MySpace was the place for tongues out and peace signs up.

2. Name Brand T-Shirts. In Every Color

Your closet was filled with Aero Tees, and Hollister Tees, in every color imaginable. You thought that you could never use too many T-shirts, you had one for every day of the week.

3. Lisa Frank

Everyone in elementary school showed off their Lisa Frank. Whether it was Binders, folders, pencil pouches or stickers, If you didn't have Lisa Frank school supplies you ended up with some by the end of the year.

4. Silly Bandz

School became a Trading Post with these, kids would have them halfway up their arms, cutting their circulation off, and still be trading them with each other, during lunch, recess, anytime.

5. Heely's

These got so popular people started wearing their wheels to school... and then they eventually got banned from most schools. You either had Heely's or longed for them, either way the skater shoes with wheels was a trend to live by.

6. Roll-on Lip Gloss

They were available at any and all dollar stores and you know you owned every possible flavor, and carries every single one with you in your sparkly purse.

7. Sparkly Purses

For some reason these were the thing to have, you shoved everything but your kitchen sink inside of them and strutted your stuff across the Limited Too store, and it didn't even matter if the sequins fell off because you used this thing to the death.

8. Art Stuff by Bath and Body Works

Every time you'd have a sleepover at any friends' house, these would line the shelves of perfume and everyone had the Art Stuff collection. Elementary school girls were covered in blueberry and watermelon smelling sparkles.

9. Slide Phones

Right around middle school when everyone started getting phones, the slide phones were the bomb. Whether it was the Chocolate or the ones that slid to give you a keyboard, the slide phone was the peak of social life.

10. Foohy Stationary

We were all too school for cool when we had these. From the pencil sharpeners to the erasers, Foohy was everywhere.

11. Smencils

Another trading trend with the Smencils. These made you "cool" in school and nobody could deny it. You'd be too scared to use them though in fear of losing their scent.

12. Best Friend Necklaces

You and your best friend got each other BFF necklaces and wore them like pro's everyday to school.

13. Reading the Magic Tree House Series

The Magic Tree House series let us go on magnificent adventures with our favorite siblings Jack and Annie. In my case, my first grade teacher even had a cardboard Magic Tree House to play in.

14. Tote Bags as Backpacks

The famous tote bag, everyone had a tote bag backpack either from Aero, or Hollister.

These trends were our childhood and we all participated in one or more of these crazy things.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
