In high school, I can say that I did not know how to manage any type of stress the pertained to "Big Tests". Now that I am in my first semester college, I am nervous but ready to attack the dreaded week known as "Finals Week". So, I came up with a list of ways to not only help myself with the stress that will come, but also to help others who are in the same boat as me.
1.) Be Prepared
As most of my professors and advisors had said, it is important to stay organized and have a plan to attack finals week. Make a calendar that has all of your exam times, project due dates and any other dates that are important.
2.) Don't Wait Until "The Last Minute"
Yes, I'm guilty of waiting until the last possible second to do work and assignments. Students have told me this week is not the week to do so. "Give yourself ample time!"
3.) Give Yourself Break During Study Times
Studies show that taking breaks helps to improve attention. Cramming too much information isn't helpful. "The body becomes “habituated” to the feeling and the stimulus no longer registers in any meaningful way in the brain" Check it out here: http://psychcentral.com/news/2011/02/09/taking-breaks-found-to-improve-attention/23329.html4.) Netflix Break
Netflix is always a good answer, but don't get hooked
5.) Yoga Break
Yoga helps to relives stress and helps with the calmness and clarity of the mind
6.) Naps
Naps that range from 10-20 minutes can be very energizing
7.) Have Fun Every Once in a While
"A dance party is always a good idea" ~AlyssaClassical music is not only calming, but also helps to improve staying. Classical music doesn't have to be boring, Spotify has playlists with songs from today in but with a classical twist. My favorite is Vitamin String Quartet, they take all the current songs and remakes them into a tune we can all study to.
9.) Stay Energized
Each healthy foods and drink plenty of water
10.) Take a Coloring Break
Download the app Pigment
Coloring can help you clam down, reduce stress and anxiety and is relaxing too!
11.) Get a Night's Decent Sleep
All nighters are only good for so long. Sleep is just as important as studying
12.) Party When It's Over
It has to end at some point and when it does, you can relax...or celebrate!
