12 Ways To Get Into The Christmas Spirit

There is only a little over a week left until Christmas day! But what if you're not quite into it yet? Here are some things you should consider doing to get yourself into the holiday spirit.

1. Donate

Money, time, toys, etc., there are so many charities and ways to get involved this time of the year. We often get so caught up with the idea of getting or giving gifts to our loved ones that we tend to not think about those who won't be able to do either. Just don't forget that being charitable is something that can and should be done anytime of the year, not just around Christmas.

2. Listen to music

More specifically, I recommend using Pandora. It's the best place to find a variety of Christmas music based on the artists you like. Also, I may or may not be listening to it right now.

3. Watch movies

ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas. Need I say more?

4. Decorate

You don't have to spend a ton of money or go overboard to decorate for Christmas. All you need to do to make your room festive is to put up a mini pre-lit Christmas tree with mini-decorations like ornaments, a topper, and a skirt, and you're set!

5. Bake cookies

It doesn't even matter if you're a good baker or not, because you don't need to be to make these. And honestly, who needs more?

6. Drink hot chocolate

What else would you want to drink with those awesome cookies?

7. Wear Christmas pajamas

I don't care if you don't own any. If you can, you need to buy at least one pair. Don't ask why, just trust me. Nothing makes drinking hot chocolate with your cookies while watching Christmas movies better than doing it all in soft, holiday themed pajamas.

8. Look at Christmas lights

If there isn't a place you can go to that's made for Christmas light watching, just drive around in different neighborhoods. I remember doing this when I was a kid and I loved it.

9. Make a gingerbread house

It doesn't matter if it's the worst gingerbread house you've ever seen. In fact, the worse it is and the messier it is to make, the more fun it is. Although I guess making one that looks like this would be pretty fun too but whatever.

10. See a Christmas themed play

Plays are awesome. Christmas is awesome. Combine the two and you get double the amount of awesome.

11. Go on a horse and carriage ride

Because who doesn't want to go dashing through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, over the fields, laughing all the way?

12. Do all of those things with family and/or friends

All of the above things are great to do, but doing them with people you love makes them even better.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
