Valentine's Day is an interesting holiday, the day devoted to love. What does one do to prove their love? Well, we give gifts. We give gifts on holidays to show that we care about the people we love. So, to have a holiday that is solely devoted to love, the gift-giving is ten times harder.
1. Classic
Get your lover the simple yet elegant chocolate and flowers. It is basic, but that is what makes it romantic. The fact that its been around for years makes it tradition. Not only is it a classic, but it is simple for those whom have just started dating.
2. For the Writers
A nice way to show your love might be by getting in touch with your inner author. Yeah, it might be cheesy, but if your girl fell in love with words then words are the way to her heart. Find a pack of playing cards and punch a hole in the side or corner of each card. For every playing card take a sharpie or other type of permanent marker and write something you love about her. Tie it together with a ribbon and you are sure to pull at her heartstrings.
3. For the Artists
Something that is always a big hit is something you make yourself. Maybe your chick is the artistic type; this is the time to prove you can hold a paintbrush the right way...or in this case, a sharpie (permanent marker). Go to any store that carries kitchenware and get a plain white mug. The cheaper the better, try Marshalls or the dollar store. Then grab a permanent marker and create a design on the mug. It could be something simple like a message or her name, or something more imaginative. Then pop it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Then turn the oven off and let the mug cool off with the oven. Once your mug is cool, your design should be permanent. Just tell her its hand-wash only. She'll be so impressed.
4. For the Jock
Maybe your girl is into sports, and not so into the ooey-gooey love. Tickets to a professional game would be a great idea; or if you live somewhere where the weather assists the game she plays, you can organize a group of friends to play. Something she might like is apparel or souvenirs that correlate with her favorite team, or player. If all else fails, try getting her sporty chic clothing that you know she will use, like sports bras.
5. For the Geek
Nerdy jokes have always been the way that my mother got to my father's heart (he's a chemist). Maybe fill a beaker with candy or use an equation to send them a message! Things like that would let them know you really appreaciate them just as they are.
6. The Best Friend
What could be better than a Galentine's Day? If your best friend is your valentine the best thing you can do is something that you two can do together. Whether it be a concert, road trip, ice skating, brunch, or a mere coffee date--its important you do it together. Otherwise you might want to try making something handmade for each other, perhaps somethings related to an inside joke!
7. Family
Cards and flowers are always a good idea for family members. That, and food.
8. For Mom
While cards and flowers are good for any family member, Mom is a VIP family member. She did birth you, remember? And even if she did not she is your mom and Mothers have a special place in our hearts. Moms really appreciate it when you do things like household chores, so maybe this valentines day you can do the dishes for her or clean the house. Show her you love her by doing those chores!
9. For Him
Yeah the guy has a lot of pressure on the day of love, but that does not mean girls should slack off. DO something cool for your man! Any necessity item always makes a guy smile. Try getting him basic needs like underwear, socks, and deodorant will save him time and money while letting him know you care. If you're with the outdoorsy type, a camping trip or picnic might be a nice idea! If none of that is for him, maybe supply him with clothes. A nice tie or pair of shoes would make his day. Last but not least, if all else fails, you can ALWAYS get him food. It doesn't matter if you order it or make it by hand, your man will always love some grub.
10. Sensual
If you're looking to have a helluva sexy night with your boo, get some candles and rose petals. Draw a warm bath, setting the petals on top of the water, then ass some mood lighting by lighting the candles. Getting a massage oil or lotion would be a nice touch to your steamy evening.
11. Dinner
No matter what you do for Valentine's Day, dinner is always a MUST. End your holiday (or start it) the right way with a fancy or homemade dinner. It can be a candlelit romantic meal or messy and carefree at home where you make it together. Just don't forget dinner!
12. Nothing
It is important to remember that not everybody likes the holiday, especially with all the pressure it puts on lovers. If your significant other is not the romantic type, then don't push it and try to have a lax night. Relieve your parter of that pressure and treat it like just a regular date night, or stay in and snuggle in front of a movie. To each their own!
