12 Undeniable Benefits of Being Single on Valentine's Day

In society, there is sometimes a stigma surrounding those who are single without really taking the time to consider why that person isn’t with someone at the moment. And it is assumed that on Valentine's Day, only those who are coupled can actually celebrate it to it’s fullest potential. Well, as a single person myself, I believe that whether you may be in a relationship or not, you can still celebrate it. Below, are a few benefits of being single on Valentine’s Day!

1. You can consume as much chocolate as you want—without any added shame.

Of course until that moment when you go into a deep sugar and caffeine coma.

2. There is no need to share anything especially those cheap wrapped boxes of chocolate.

But you know you’ll hit up all those sales around town to get the really good, quality stuff.

3. You’ll be able to catch up on some much needed rest—a girl’s gotta sleep, right?

4. And on top of that, don’t feel the need to get up too early—hit the snooze button!

This Valentine’s Day will be on a Sunday, so be sure sleep in till the point where if you wake up you won’t feel like a zombie that just crawled out of its coffin.

5. A marathon of binge-watching *name show* on Netflix is just calling your name.

Bye world, hello Netflix!

6. You can still splurge on gorgeous flowers and decadent chocolate—Valentine’s Day doesn’t necessarily have to validate those purchases. #treatyoself

7. Who like’s the color pink, anyways?

I'm much more of a purple girl, myself.

8. Taylor Swift latest album is on repeat. All day everyday.

9. There are no expectations you have to live up to—just do you!

10. There’s a chance you’ll find your next soulmate if you give love a shot.

What about that guy in your biology class you’ve been eyeing since last semester? There’s a good chance he doesn’t know how you feel, so reach out and see what happens. If you fall short in that department, you’ll be glad you at least gave it a shot.

11. Loving yourself will never go out of style.

12. At the end of the day, the possibilities are what you make them.

Even if you celebrate Valentine’s Day without a special someone, that doesn’t mean you still can’t have some fun of your own! Let go, take a breath, and do whatever you’d like. If that means staying in for the night, then don’t feel guilty. It’s always good to dedicate some TLC time to yourself. Just know that you’re not alone; there are plenty of people out there who are single. Maybe after V-Day, jump the fence and try to spark up something fresh in the dating scene. You have nothing to lose, and if you don’t try, you may never know the outcome.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
