12 Things We Need To Stop Doing

Let's stop being the problem and be the solution

We all have times when we think back and say, “WHY did I do that?” It happens. We’re all imperfect and mistakes happen. However, there are some things we have done at least once in our lives that, for some reason, society accepts and that’s just not okay. To say the world can change overnight is naïve, and unlike Big Sean, Kanye and John Legend, I don’t think one man can change the world; at least not without a little help. So imagine a world where we stopped doing the next 12 things and how different life would be.

1. Buying products from sweatshop

Cheaper doesn’t mean better. We’re trading human dignity for cellphones and clothes.

2. Drunk dialing our exes

There is a reason things didn’t work out and if you couldn’t work it out sober, you sure as hell won’t be able to work it out after 7 shots.

3. Coming up with excuses to be unhealthy

We only get one body, and there is really no excuse for mistreating it.

4. Letting bigotry and hate fuel actions

It is 2016. Let people love, be who they are and find their way in this world it is as simple as that. Stop stereotyping and closing your mind to anything you don't understand.

5. Rationalizing our bad behavior

Yes we are all human and everyone makes mistakes, but accepting that you made a mistake and learning from it is the only real way to grow up.

6. Thinking the world revolves around us

There are tens of thousands of endangered organisms in the world, most are endangered due to human action and most we need to maintain our ecosystem. It’s time to stop pretending like the world revolves around us.

7. Being afraid to love

Loving someone else is scary, because it leaves you vulnerable. It also creates an unmatchable happiness and strength.

8. Selling ourselves short

Each one of us is completely unique. With all of the billions of people in the world there is only one you, and to someone you’re everything.

9. Body shaming

People come in all shapes, colors, makes, models, etc. Stop telling people they are “took skinny” or “too fat” instead focus on yourself and find the beauty in yourself and others instead of the flaws.

10. Settling for less than we deserve

Do NOT settle for someone who makes you doubt yourself or tears you down. There are 7 BILLION people in this world; there is someone who loves you for all of your perfections and imperfections.

11. Relying on the media to tell us what we should be

Not having the latest phone, laptop, outfit, hairstyle etc. does NOT make you any lesser of a person and shame on society for allowing this belief to arise.

12. Using the N word, using the R word and using any form of gay slur

Once again, it is 2016. We have shared this planet for thousands of years. Being ignorant enough to use one or any of these words is sad and says much more about your lack of character than it does the person you’re referring to.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
