Since joining my sorority, I have noticed that there are some things that any sorority girl loves, no matter what sorority you are in. One can't help but be totally and completely in love with these things. Most of it has to do, with the fact that once you have joined your sorority you are totally in love with your sorority and what it stands for, in addition to all your amazing sisters. So here are the 12 things every sorority girl loves.
1. Fall.
Every sorority girl loves fall, because it means cute sweaters and flannels with riding boots and don't forget your Starbucks pumpkin spiced latte. In addition to the obvious two reasons that fall is loved by sorority girls. You also have to remember that during fall is the prime time for a cute sister photo shoot at a local orchard. Because what doesn't scream fall, like picking apples and taking posed pictures at an orchard.
2. Throwing what you know.
After joining a sorority, instead of a go-to hand on the hip pose for photos, you "throw what you know" with whoever you know around you. Along with the occasional sorority squat for photos.
3. Snaps.
Say goodbye to claps, when you want to show some love for what someone says, you snap. I can't begin to tell you the number of times I snap when I agree with something, especially on reality TV shows. And, of course, when you want to congratulate a sister on something she has done -- snap, snap.
4. Crafting.
Sorority girls love their crafting. You have heard the expression don't mess with a pregnant women, well don't mess with a sorority girl while she's crafting. Crafting is probably one of my favorite parts about being in a sorority, besides the amazing sisterhood. Because, don't you just want to fill every corner of your dorm with your sorority love.
5. Lilly Pulitzer.
One of the best brand names to exist on Earth. Also a brand that tends to fill a good section of a sorority girls' closet. Between sisterhood events, cocktails, dressing up, brunch, and sometimes a regular Tuesday -- there is never an excuse to not wear a Lilly dress.
6. Vineyard Vines.
Vineyard Vines is another brand that fills the closets of many sorority girls and frat guys. But as sororities go, most people know that as a sorority girl you have to two looks: dress up and dress down. So if you aren't all dressed up and looking cute, most likely you are wearing leggings with an oversized Vineyard Vines whale shirt and hat.
7. Brunch.
Why have breakfast, when you can dress up for brunch. Sunday brunch has become a traditional among my sisters and I to finish off the weekend before we have to do homework for the upcoming week. But at home, it seems like I can't help but go out to brunch at least once a week. Brunch truly is the best and most important meal of the day for a sorority girl (or any female in general).
8. Letters.
Second to crafting, is letters. Being able to wear your letters around campus and seeing your sisters in their letters too is amazing. Plus, the best part of letters is when you wear them outside of campus, you run into sisters you have never met before from other chapters and alumni.
9. Monograms.
Monograms on monograms, a girl can't have too many monograms. Whether it's a necklace, a hat, a shirt, or some earrings, or a wooden monogram for your room. Monograms make everything look classy and beautiful, just like pearls. It's a staple and makes keeping track of your things in a little more fashionable.
10. Formals.
The best part about formals are that they are like mini-proms, but even more fun! Getting all dressed up and buying a new dress to go spend a fun time with your date and your sisters, what more could you ask fun. Plus it is a nice change up from the traditional mixer or party, because you really get to get all dolled up.
11. Big/little reveal.
Who doesn't love Big/Little reveal, it is the best time of the year. The week leading up to it, getting a bunch of gifts from your big and your big being so excited that you are their little, even though the little doesn't know yet. The big reveal at the end of big/little week is the best time of all! It's so exciting to become a part of a family.
12. Having a place to call home.
The one thing that every sorority girl loves is that they found their home away from home at college, and also got a perfect family of sisters to go along with it. Being a part of a sorority is an amazing thing and yes their are silly things one does after becoming a part of a sorority, but it is all done with love and the sisterhood in mind. So, of course, every sorority girl shares the same love for their sisters because they become some of the best friends you'll ever find.
