Through high school and into college, every teenager wants a job, until they actually get a job and then they dread every minute they have to be at work. Babysitting seems to be a lot of teenagers job of choice though. We like children and they are never too hard to handle (okay maybe they can be). I got really lucky when i was in high school. I got offered the opportunity to be a full time, live-in nanny when i started college. My job has taught me so many things that will not only help me now but later in life.
1. Patience
You don't know how much patience you may or may not have until you live with an 8 and 9 year old boy...trust me.
2. Time management
Between Freshman year of college and 8 soccer practices a week, I've had to get pretty good at this.
3. Money management
In high school, i blew through money like it was nothing, my job now has taught me that you can't really do that you're whole life.
4. You can never be too grateful
I have gained another whole family from getting this job. They are there for me whenever I need it.
5. I do not want kids for a long long time
Being a full time nanny is the greatest form of birth control there is. Children aren't always sunshine and happiness.
6. Controlling my temper
I can't get mad at them for everything they do that i don't like, though.
7. Maturity
I grew up really quick. I'm not only in charge of myself and getting through school and every day but I'm also in charge of 2 kids for the majority of some days. I can't act like a reckless 18 year old like most people my age.
8. Appreciate free time
I don't get much, which i can't complain about because my job is my biggest blessing thus far, but when i do have free time I make the most of it.
9. Keep an open mind
I went from being a complete mommy's girl to living with people I'd only known for about a year very quick. I was scared, I'll admit that, but this job has made given me the chance to experience so many things I never would've tried otherwise
10. Being creative
Young boys get bored after 5 minutes of having nothing to do, so I've had to get pretty creative with activities.
11. Values
I've learned so much about myself, and who I want to be in the future.
12. Being a role model
I've learned how to set positive examples for children, and also how I want people to look up to me.
Being a nanny has made me a better person, o doubt about it. I can't wait to see how else it helps me grow as a person in the upcoming years. If you're ever offered a job as a full time nanny, I seriously recommend you take it!
