Graduating high school and preparing to head off to college may be on of the most nerve-wracking, exciting times of your life. The summer before college may also be one of the last with minimum responsibilities and the last time you and all your high school friends are together. So, here are some tasks to accomplish before you leave for college that will help make your summer one to remember.
1. Make extra time for family.
Although most teenagers despise spending a great amount of time with family, it is important to do so the summer before you leave for college. I do not just mean parents, but also aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings and grandparents. Up to the point when your parents leave you at college, you may not miss them or feel like you'll miss them too much, but give it a few weeks. Trust me.
2. Save money.
Work hard, so you can play hard. It also does not hurt to have some extra cash to buy school apparel or shop at new local stores. Also, you will probably be buying lots of pizza, so start saving up for that.
3. Enjoy your friends.
This may be one of the last times you and your high school friends are all together, so create memories with them.
4. Put your phone down.
Stop texting, tweeting and Snapchatting for a little bit and be in the moment. Enjoy the people around you because in a few months, you won't be around those familiar faces.
5. Soak up the sun and relax.
Enjoy the beautiful days outside because soon enough, you'll be back in the classroom. Do not forget to take some time to yourself. Remember, you will have a roommate or two come the fall.
6. Exercise.
Do not just lounge around all summer. Stay active because the freshmen 15 is real, and you should start resisting it as soon as possible.
7. Contact your roommate.
Whether your roommate is a random person or someone you know, you two should get to know each other pretty well. You will be seeing each other every day, and having a stable relationship with them is important.
8. Check off your checklist.
From your financial aid and room decor to transportation and daily supplies, make sure you have gotten everything that you are going to need. Remember all the little things you would not think to grab because you will not be able to walk into your mom's room to get items anymore.
9. Go on new adventures.
Hike a mountain trail you have not before, travel to a new place, cross off items on your bucket list. Go by yourself and enjoy nature, or go with your friends and family and share the experience.
10. Attend a summer concert.
Whether it be your favorite artist or a band that is not well known, go. Who could say no to live music and good concert vibes?
11. Discover your hometown.
Your hometown will always be a part of you, and whether you return there after college or just periodically to see family, you should know the hot spots and everything it has to offer.
