If you came from a small day school, chances are that you will experience a culture shock when you go to college.
In particular, there are 12 surprises that you will face during your first year in college:
1. Someone will actually ask your professor if they can go to the bathroom.
It always was, and always will be, awkward for everyone.
2. No more "Harkness Tables."
Speaking of which …
3. Raising your hand in class.
Personally, it was a shock coming from classes that were much more conversational.
4. Almost no one will recognize your school.
Unless they came from another private school, the name of your obscure country day school will mean nothing to most of the new people that you’ll meet.
5. A class of 16 is considered "small."
That used to be a lot … a small class is about four or so people.
6. Freshman homework will be half as much as what was assigned senior year of high school.
All of those AP classes will make college seem easier.
7. There's a lot more drinking, and a lot less drugs.
Pretty self-explanatory …
8. You'll probably be overwhelmed with the amount of new people.
From a class of less than 50, I for sure was overwhelmed meeting over 1,000 new people.
9. Having no sports requirement allows the "Freshman 15" to come pretty quickly.
Go to the gym.
10. There's a good chance your college is "younger" than your high school.
Celebrating the 75th anniversary doesn’t mean a lot after having just celebrated a 150th one.
11. No more dress code.
It took 12 years, but finally you can wear whatever you want.
12. No matter how much you hated it, you'll still be nostalgic for your high school years.
It feels like yesterday.
