When people ask where you're from, and you tell them Southington, they will often ask "where?" or "what's that?" People from Southington, however, know that there is so much more to our town than meets the eye. Here are 12 truths only people from Southington know.

1. Your favorite place for a sit down breakfast is the Pepper Pot

There’s just something about those huge pancakes and amazing omelettes.

2. You've had a season's pass to Lake Compounce at some point in your life

When it’s right up the road, you have to do it.

3. You went to summer camp at Camp Sloper

And your favorite part was always the Super Slide.

4. You love your Dunkin, but no bagel will beat Fancy Bagel

And you’re prepared to wait in the line to get it every time you come home.

5. You’ve been to the Apple Harvest Festival more times than you can count

Did someone say fritters?

6. You’ve driven up and down Queen Street looking for a place to eat

Whether it’s Chilis, Outback, Bertucci’s, or Puerto Vallarta, you’re bound to find something.

7. You spend your Wednesday nights in the summer watching free concerts at Music on the Green

And nothing goes better with a free concert than some homemade fried dough.

8. You know the best ice cream is from Prailene’s

And no one can say otherwise.

9. You’ve tried a gourmet pizza from The Fireplace

You know their mashed potato is to die for.

10. You’ve gone to an event at the Aqua Turf

Whether it was your senior prom or your best friend’s wedding, you’ve been there for some special occasion.

11. You went to Southington High School

You probably had Mr. Brown as a teacher and went to a few football games in your time there, too.

12. You'll always have a place to call home

No matter where you go, you'll always be welcomed home.

When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
