When I was in high school, I didn't know where I wanted to continue my education, but I knew I wanted to stay in Louisiana. I was an LSU fan growing up, so of course they were in the mix. However, it wasn't until my senior year of high school that I knew where I wanted to go. Honestly, I didn't know much about Lafayette or the university there. Even when I decided to go to the university there I had no idea what I was getting myself into other than a whole new culture and experience. There is a lot that goes into being a Ragin' Cajun and you never know what you will get into. Here are 12 reasons why you shouldn't become a Ragin' Cajun:

1. They are named the Ragin' Cajuns- what in the world is a Ragin' Cajun?

I don't think of a pepper when I hear Ragin' Cajuns.

2. Their mascot is a pepper

Like who really came up with that idea? They must not have had any better ideas. Not only is it a vegetable, but it's pretty creepy looking too.

3. They have way too many names.

They go by UL, ULL, and UL Lafayette. That's too much to keep up with and no one knows their real name.

4. They have a swamp in the middle of their campus.

Who puts a swamp in the middle of a college campus with alligators? The alligators even escape from time to time. Do they not care about the students' safety?

5. Their campus doesn't look appeasing at all.

They have oak trees all over the place that touch the ground and they have a big eye sore of a water fountain in the Quad as well.

6. They have a fleur de lis fountain in the middle of the Quad.

Who decided that would be a good idea?

7. There's too much culture celebrated at this school.

-You see so much stuff around campus dealing with the culture it's almost mind numbing. From the Acadian flag to the fleur di lis all over campus.

8. The bus line is ridiculous

This is probably the worst of the worst. The bus line is wrapped around the stadium before 8 am and there is usually only one bus at a time.

9. You'll make way too many friends at UL

-You'll make friends even before you step foot on campus during orientation, then comes your first day of class and you are surrounded by thousands of students.

10. Everyone loves UL too much.

-Students at UL have too much school spirit and they wear wayyyy too much red for anyone's own good.

11. Their sports fans are way too passionate

-You'll see faces painted, people drinking, and loud obnoxious fans everywhere.

12. This place instantly feels like home

Once you step foot on campus you will instantly feel like UL is your second home whether it's because you pretty much live in the library or you are always on campus.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
