Throughout the semester it can be difficult to find time to call anyone for a conversation. Busy schedules only allows brief chats with your parents before there's somewhere you need to be or something you need to do. However, there are moments where you just need to call and it can't wait. Here are 12 reasons you call your parents when you're away.
1. When you're hungry
They may not be able to fix the problem right away, but talking about food with your parents can bring you back to the days of home-cooked meals instead of Caf food. The conversation alone will make your day better. And if you talk about your favorite meals they'll more than likely make sure it's on the table when you get home--or send it in a care package!
2. When you stain your favorite shirt
There's nothing worse than having a stain on your favorite shirt and not knowing how to make it go away. Your parents will know exactly how to fix this! You'll call them and evaluate the stain itself (how long has it been on there, how large it the stain, etc.). They'll know if you can wait to do laundry or if you need to be extra precautionary. Let's face it, your parents are the reason half your wardrobe still exists.
3. When you're stressed
A phone call with your parents right before a big day of exams to vent is exactly what you need. They are willing to understand and listen, no matter how small your problems seems to you. The stress will lift off your shoulders the minute you end that hour long phone call with your parents.
4. When you have a health question
Hands down, there's no one better--except maybe an actually doctor--to tell you what to do. Whether you're undecided about what tea you should drink if you have a sore throat to something more serious, parents will always have the answer.
5. When you're walking to class
The walk to class is the perfect time for a quick chat with mom and dad. This conversation will allow you to catch up with their lives, to see how they're doing, but mostly to see how you're dog is. And before you know it, you're at the class room!
6. When you can't find something at the grocery store
Walking down every single aisle is a struggle, but your mom has this placed mapped out and knows it like the back of her hand. A quick phone call will get you to that jar of peanut butter faster than you can say "Thanks, mom!"
7. When you need to know how to cook said grocery item
No matter how many times you look at the recipe or google "how to cook (insert difficult dish here)" nothing can compare to the perfect answer your mom and dad will give you over the phone. While the internet may give you an exact answer, they will give you an answer plus some ideas for an appetizer and dessert.
8. When you need support
There's nothing better than having a motivational talk with your parents when you're having a really bad day. They know exactly how to get your spirits up. The best part is, because they are your parents, they mean every single word.
9. When you want relationship advice
Parents are far wiser than your 20 year old self, so when it comes to relationships, they know best. Calling to ask for advice is the best things you could possibly do.
10. When you need money
A little extra cash from your parents shouldn't be the number one reason you call, but it certainly isn't a bad conversation topic.
11. When you have exciting news
Calling your parents when you've gotten an A on an assignment or a job offer is the best feeling ever! You can feel their excitement for you over the phone and you know they're proud of you because you can hear it in their voices.
12. When you want to say "I love you"
There are moments when you just need to tell your parents how much they mean to you and how thankful you are for their support and love. Calling to say "I love you" is the best reason to dial their number. Even though you aren't there to say it in person, it still goes a long way to say those words over the phone.
