Growing up my parents always told me about Star Wars and how much of a "great" movie it was. They made me sit down and watch every installment which is six movies of this space themed series. I have no seen the new one and nor will I ever see it because well, Star Wars sucks. If you think about it each movie is almost three hours long, thats 18 hours of just Star Wars. No thanks. Now, I won't lie when I said I am a new fan of Star Trek, I started loving it over the summer when I dislocated my knee and wasn't allowed to do anything active for two months. I also will admit I have never seen any of the older versions of Star Trek. Here are twelve reasons why Star Trek is better than Star Wars
1. Chris Pine.
Although Harrison Ford will always have a special place in my heart, that spot is only reserved for Indiana Jones version of Harrison Ford. Chris Pine is a total hottie, sorry not sorry.
2. There's no Jar Jar Binks in Star Trek.
I don't think there is much to say about this one being that it's so obvious. Jar Jar Binks brings no relevance to the actual movie. He can't do anything nor has any special powers that wow me or anybody else. Also does anyone really understand what he's saying half the time? No.
3. Star Trek Has Better Aliens.
Chewbacca has to be another irrelevant alien. One that doesn't even speak any kind of understandable dialect because it's just whining if you ask me. The Star Trek Aliens come from different alien cultures plus the aliens in Star Trek at least have an intelligent brain. Star Trek has the Vulcans (Mr. Spock is a vulcan and is highly intelligent if you ask me.) The Klingons, The Romulans, The Ferengis, and the Bajorans.
4. Star Trek has a more diverse cast.
It wasn't until recently that the new Star Wars movie added in a diverse cast which is good don't get me wrong, but they could've done better at the beginning. Star Trek has always had a diverse cast including women of color and having women as leaders also including a pilot who is a man and has a husband and two kids.
5. Star Wars is less humanistic than Star Trek.
Yes, aliens aren't technically suppose to be human, but it makes the story less annoying and less about magic. For instance, Spock looks very human for being an alien with green blood and he is half human, so Spock actually has emotions. If you look at the aliens in Star Wars Chewbacca, Jabba The Hut, Jar Jar Binks etc.. they are not human, plus Jedi's are just knights with magical powers. Nobody in Star Trek has any kind of force or magic power.
6. Star Trek is Science Fiction whereas Star Wars is space magic.
In Star Wars You obtain the force, great well what else can you actually do with it besides move things around with your mind or choke people? That's right absolutely nothing. You have magic mind powers good for you, heres a massive magic stick sword call yourself a Jedi. Star Trek is actually based on real physics and scientists today still talk about quantum teleportation that is used in Star Trek. Also, transparent aluminum is a real thing and has been used to save the lives of many whales.
7. Unexpected Romance.
Unlike the predictable romance between Princess Lea and Han Solo, snore. You would think there would be a romance between Captain Kirk and Uhura, you would be very wrong my friend. Spock and Uhura actually end up together which is beautiful considering he is the only Vulcan who is half human.
8. Star Trek is way more emotional.
I mean yeah, poor Luke got his arm cut off, and grew up without his mom around, even made out with his own sister. However, no character witnessed their mother die in front of their eyes. Captain Kirk, James Kirk's dad, actually died before he could see his son grow up. He was there to name him but he went down with the ship.
9. The Aliens in Star Wars are actually very racist.
Jar Jar Binks is an offensive Jamaican stereotype. Watto the junk dealer that Luke works for, is a stereotype of Jewish individuals, and the Neomidians are "yellow menace" Fu-Manchu Asain stereotype. The list goes on and I think you get it, but Star Wars is crossed off my list.
10. Star Trek came before Star Wars and there is more of it.
Star Trek started off as a TV show with multiple seasons, there's a cartoon TV series, plus 12 films. Star wars, there's only six movies that are ridiculously too long.
11. Star Trek targets real social issues.
They target drug abuse, racism, abortion and war crimes. They targeted racism by having an interracial kiss, Spock and Uhura and in the tv show Captain Kirk and Uhura also share a kiss. A majority of these issues were portrayed in the old TV show before it was popular to do so. There are many issues that were targeted and those were just some. This website gives a breakdown of what episode and what issue was targeted.
12. The Bromance Between Spock and Kirk.
The best bromance between the two movies is between Spock and Kirk. Because how many times can Kirk tell Mr. Spock "I don't know what I would do without you?" Or the scene between Spock and Kirk where Kirk dies for but a moment and they touch hands through the glass and Spock cries. Spock is willing to do anything for Kirk and vice versa. Spock is Captain Kirk's right hand man and I can't.
