Growing up, my grandparents were some of best friends. I spent a lot of time with them, and they were my rocks. Even after I am close to finishing up my teenage years, I can say that statement still stands true. I would not be the same person I am today without my amazing grandparents and I know that is the same way for many people my age. I wanted to give an insight to why I personally think grandparents make the best of friends.
1. They love you unconditionally
Their love for you is not limited in any way. Their love is complete and absolute, and nothing could change that.
2. They say “yes” when your parents say “no”
Anytime you want something and your mom and dad tell you “no”, there is a good chance if you ask your grandparents, they will say “yes” because they can’t say no to their cute, innocent grandchildren.
3. Spoil is their middle name
Whenever a holiday or birthday rolls around, we always get excited to get a letter from our grandparents. They will find any reason to get you a present or send you a card.
4. They would do anything to make you happy
Grandparents don’t like to see their grandchildren sad. They would do anything to make you feel happy and would sacrifice anything to do that.
5. Watching them try to be up-to-date with the teens these days is always quite hilarious
Seeing grandparents try to work their new smartphone, or when they try to get into the new lingo, always gives grandchildren a good giggle
6. They teach us life lessons every day
They have gone through so many trials and tribulations that we don’t know about or just don’t quite understand yet, and that makes grandparents so wise. Their life lessons are always so important to remember.
7. They make the best babysitters
Grandparents LOVE to be with their grandchildren and they will play just about any crazy games their grandchildren can think of. I always had the most fun with my grandparents when they babysat me.
8. They are the best chefs
They have so many years of practicing their cooking skills, and only the best food they have ever made has made it to where they are now. Not only will they cook it for their grandchildren whenever they have the chance, but they will hand down the recipes and their children, and grandchildren will be able to hand it down to the next generations.
9. They will always make time to see you and spend time with you
Grandparents always will make time to spend with their grandchildren whenever and wherever. Grandparents know how crazy lives can get when you enter the teenage years, and they will take as much time as they can get with their favorite people.
10. They are always cheering you on from the sidelines in every aspect of your life
No matter what sport, play, recital, or any other extracurricular activity you are involved in, they will be there cheering you on and they will always be your #1 fan.
11. They have the most interesting stories
If you get your grandparents on a rant about the “good ‘ol days” there is no stopping them. They have so many amazing experiences to share and it is important to listen because there is something you can take away from all of them. They are stories that you can tell your kids and grandchildren about too.
12. They will always be there for you no matter what
With all the experience grandparents have in life with everything, they can give you advice in just about any aspect of your life. If you ever needed someone to talk to, your grandparents are always there for you even when you think no one else is.
As I get older I want my grandparents to know how much I appreciate them and everything they have taught me. They have given me the most amazing parents, and for that, I am forever grateful. I am so lucky I get to call them my grandparents. I would not be the same woman I am today without the constant support from them and all of the sacrifices they have made for me and my brothers.
