Eating disorders are perhaps some of the most misunderstood, and stereotyped diseases out there. There are so many stereotypes that they're vain, and petty, when in all reality they are extremely real struggles. Recovering from an eating disorder is extremely difficult and it takes time, perhaps more time than you may think necessary. Coming from an eating disorder sufferer and being in recovery, there are just some things that happen that are just yay and nay moments.
1. "If you think you're fat, then what am I?"
One of the biggest misconceptions of eating disorders is that our body image distortions apply to everybody. Newsflash: IT ONLY APPLIES TO OURSELVES
2. People making dark eating disorder jokes

3. "Wow I wish I had that much will-power"
I'm honestly laughing on the inside at the assholery.
4. People laughing at our food anxieties
yes, we know it may sound silly, but it's also a legit fear.. don't laugh.
5. Being around people who are constantly talking about diets or dieting
Seriously no. Just no.
6. "Do you know how many calories are in that? That's so unhealthy"
Why yes, yes I do know how many calories are in it, wanna do me a favor and not remind me? Kay Thanks.
7. Good vs. Bad Days

9. Having to tell doctors and other family / friends about your eating disorder
It's fine. I'm fine. Everything is fine.
10. "Are you over that now?"
Actually no and actually you should stop talking.
11. "Oh wait, so it's not about the food?"
We know, mind blowing isn't it?
12. Conquering a fear food
What you have to understand is conquering a fear food is both a huge success that we're proud of but at the same time hate immensely.
13. Embracing recovery
Overall, Recovering from an eating disorder is a long journey. It may take you months, years, or decades. The reality is that there is so many misunderstood concepts of eating disorders. Just please try not to be an asshole to people.
