“Hitting the ‘Next Episode’ button on Netflix is like hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock - it’s going to happen at least three times.” -Unknown
If you’re anything like me, your life revolves around Netflix when you find a new show to watch. When your friends ask if you want to go out, you come up with an excuse as to why you can't, just to binge watch the next few episodes of whatever show it is that you’re hooked on that week. You can search shows by genre, new releases and suggested for you. (Caution: These are extra dangerous options during midterms and finals weeks).
If you need a good laugh, good storyline, or even a good cry, here are some suggestions for your next TV show to binge watch:
1. Parks and Recreation
I’ve personally re-watched this show four times. Its basis around local government and the inclusion of a couple of comedians makes this TV show a must-see. Although it isn’t realistic, we all wish we could work in an environment with people like Leslie Knope, Donna, Tom, and Ron Swanson. One question you’ll leave this show with: Do they ever actually get anything done?
2. The Office
A classic. Parks and Rec and The Office are similar in work-environment humor, yet they’re vastly different. Michael Scott is a boss that everyone loves (and gets annoyed with) for his humor, but would never want to work under, and the love story of Pam and Jim makes this show one of the best.
3. How To Get Away With Murder
If you want to be on the edge of your seat and waiting for every episode with a crazed obsession, then this is the show for you. Wes is the epitome of innocence at the beginning of the first episode and as the storyline progresses, his innocence becomes more and more scarce, you'll have to watch it see how it unfolds.
4. Scandal
A scandalous affair. A life revolving around politics. Is there a limit to how much Olivia Pope can take? Jake or Fitz? Should she trust her father or her mother? This show raises so many questions, but it’s well worth all of the heartache (and headaches) it may cause.
5. Sense8
Probably one of the most confusing shows I’ve ever watched, and I’ve seen a lot. A great show once you understand it, and it will be different than anything else you're likely to watch. It includes different storylines, different people and different problems that every one of them faces. It’ll have you wanting to be a sensate when finish watching the seasons available on Netflix. Who wouldn’t want to be able to connect with someone halfway across the world and be able to use the skills that they’ve most likely spent years mastering?
6. Arrested Development
Some of the weirdest characters you will ever see on TV are on this show. Weird family relations always makes for a good laugh. A Ponzi Scheme, a dysfunctional family, and a banana stand; what more does this tv show need?
7. House of Cards
If you like politics, and you like an interactive show, this is the one for you. Frank Underwood will make you cringe sometimes, and other times you will want him as your President. You’re either all for Frank, or you’re all for Claire. There’s no in between. Infidelity, murder, and politics; Oh my!
8. Bob’s Burgers
Cartoon show about a run-down burger shop. Tina, Gene, and Louise are the kids you will never want, but the siblings you sometimes get along with and sometimes don’t. Bob and Linda are the embarrassing parents that we have, but ours are not nearly as bad as these two. Hilarity ensues when you watch this show; every single episode.
9. The 100
From the get-go, this show will have you hating the future of humanity. Sending 100 kids, who were indicted for minimal crimes and sentenced to death, to a questionably radiated Earth makes you question the sanity of our future generations. A love story, a conspiracy theory, and a father sending his son to ultimate death makes this tv show an emotional roller coaster.
10. Sherlock (BBC)
We all wish we could have the intuition that he does, and the induction skills that he displays with a simple arrogance. Sherlock and Dr. Watson are back at it in a modern take, and I couldn’t be more pleased. This tv show is all about the element of mystery and surprise; you won’t be able to stop watching it once you start.
11. Grace and Frankie
This new-age story is as heart-wrenching as it is humorous. Frankie and Sol are the epitome of the marriage and friendship that everyone wants to have. Only few things can break up a marriage so strong and this show covers them. Grace and Frankie will surprise you, but it will also leave you excited for the elder ages.
12. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
This show is painfully innocent, which leads to its extreme hilarity. Kimmy Schmidt is a small-town girl who was tricked into joining a cult, and the story behind her moving to New York in order to escape from the days of the cult is sure to leave you wanting more.
There are so many shows to watch that Netflix offers and most of them get you hooked within the first few episodes. So what are you waiting for? Get to procrastinating and fall in love with a new series. Netflix is love and Netflix is life.
