My excitement grows more and more each day as Memorial Day Weekend approaches. The reasoning being is due to me having a long weekend at Wrightsville Beach, Wilmington. I am extremely excited to get back to the beach, where I grew up, but what excites me almost as much as the beach, is going to the pinnacle of restaurants Flaming Amy’s. If you are a Wilmington native, you probably have visited this fine establishment, but for those whose who have not, here are the 12 things to love about Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn.
1. First, the superb food.
Flaming Amy’s Burritos kill the competition. Taco Bell, Moe’s, and even Chipotle. That’s right. Chipotle cannot compare to these burritos. What makes them so good? Well first, they are twice the size of any burrito I have ever had. But size does not matter if the burrito does not taste good, as Taco Bell has taught me. Good for us that every bite into a Flaming Amy’s Burrito results in pure ecstasy.
2. The Salsa Bar:
Many places have a salad bar. Not Flaming Amy’s. They have a salsa bar filled with the best salsas on God’s green earth. There are at the very least 12 choices to choose from every day.
3. The atmosphere.
Walking into this place, you will see a door covered with some of the most unique bumper stickers. After walking in, you see a sign that says “All unattended children will be given a free puppy and an espresso”. But the uniqueness does not end there. There are Elvis posters, flamingos, the most bizarre artwork, and much more. You will not find another place like this.
4. The deals
Everyone loves deals, but Flaming Amy’s takes the cake with awesome deals. $2 PBR Thursday is just one example. But my favorite is Taco Tuesday. For $1, you can get a hard shell taco. And if you have a tattoo, you get ten percent of your order too. So if you get one taco and have a tattoo, you get a 90 cent taco!
5. The drinks:
First, they sell Sundrop, which is pretty dope. But along with this, you can get ice from an ice dispenser with Ice Cube face on it. And to top that, you have sweet tea with a nice picture of Ice T and unsweet tea with a thug picture of Ice T.
6. Queso:
That’s right. Queso has its own category. It is the best queso ever. It comes in two sizes, a small cup for $1.50 or a LARGE cup for $3.50 that comes with chips. Even if I am dining alone, I will get a large because the queso is that good.
7. The people:
You will see so many different types of people at Flaming Amy’s. Kids, elderly people, teens, adults, hipsters, sports team, greeks, and even celebrities. For example, Chad Michael Murray said that this was his favorite restaurant when he was filming One Tree Hill.
8. You will wait in the line.
Not many places will I wait in line. Flaming Amy’s has some of the longest lines during lunch and dinner hours. But when you make a decision to have Flaming Amy’s, you honor that commitment.
9. The Wall of Flame:
Inside, there is a library of hot sauces. These range from a small kick, to getting shot in the tongue. You have been warned.
10. Feeling like a kid again:
There is a pinball machine, a claw game, and Donkey Kong arcade game. What other restaurant has these?
11. Never getting bored of the food.
I think I have Flaming Amy’s for an entire week. Have a burrito on day one. Have a taco on day two. Have nachos on day three. You will never get bored of the food.
12. Hot, Fast, Cheap, and Easy:
This is the official slogan. The food is always hot, the service is fast, it’s fairly cheap for a sit-down restaurant, and it’s easy to order. What more is there to ask for in a restaurant?
I cannot wait to indulge on Flaming Amy’s this weekend. If you have not gone, put this place on your bucket list. If you have been to Flaming Amy’s, come again, it is the best place ever. Thanks Flaming Amy’s for all that you do and for giving the world with the best burrito.
