12 Things To Be Happy About Today
Honor Ford

There are days, weeks, months even, when we can get ourselves into a rut of feeling stuck, unsatisfied, frustrated, angry, and upset - be it with ourselves, with our families, or with the world. It seems like nothing will ever get better. But there is more to be happy about than you might think.

1. You woke up today.

Whether you were in a good mood or bad mood, you opened your eyes and chose to face the day. Maybe you even got out of bed! (If not, Netflix marathons are something to smile about, too!)

2. Dogs exist.

Yes, those cute furry animals exist and they are a gift from Heaven. Whether you have a pet of your own, or just watch adorable videos of them online, they're always there to make you smile.

3. Nothing lasts forever.

Whether you're stressed about an upcoming exam, embarrassed at how you botched an interview, or sad about a past relationship, remember, this too shall pass. You will be okay.

4. Stressed is just desserts spelled backwards.

Because sometimes, you just need a day where you eat your fill of Ben & Jerry's pints, chocolate chip cookies, and nutella.

5. Fuzzy socks and onesies!

Okay, please don't tell me I'm the only one who's thrown my onesie in the dryer and put it on right afterwards, complete with matching fuzzy socks. If you haven't, you need to. It is a magical experience.

6. Warm showers are amazing!

No matter what time of day, there is little that is better than a nice warm shower and cozy movie marathons. You can be productive tomorrow.

7. Music will let you escape.

No matter what the genre, music allows anyone to leave their reality for a little while, and enter into someone else's.

8. A day without laughter is a day wasted.

I don't know about you, but I think I'm pretty funny. Whether it's a movie, friends, or even yourself, finding the times for side-splitting, pee-your-pants laughter is a must.

9. Food is just about the best thing in this world.

Whether it's a rare occasion fancy restaurant - complete with a cute dress and heels to match, or Dunkin Donuts at two in the morning with your best friend and pajamas, food can solve so many problems.

10. Books. Books. Books.

You wanna talk about music transporting you to another world, how about books, that create an entirely separate reality for you as well? Not to mention, the smell of the pages of a book can't be beat.

11. Basically all art forms are just the coolest.

Whether you're seeing a movie, watching TV, going to a ballet, an opera, a musical, a play, or an artist's exhibition, how amazing is the realization that someone (or more appropriately, someones) poured their heart and soul into creating it purely because they really really care about it??

12. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate...pick your poison.

No matter what your comfort drink may be, preparing it for a wake-up call, a mid-day slump, or an end of the day unwind seems to make the whole world make sense again.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
