12 Things That Disney Princesses' Have Taught Me

We all grew up watching princess movies. It has always been something dear to our hearts. Well, for me anyway. Every Disney movie has a lot of great values to them that have helped form who we are today, but have you ever thought about some of the Disney princesses’ good intentions be taken the wrong way? Here is a list of things that Disney princesses taught me:

1. Cinderella taught me that it’s perfectly okay to marry someone for money

I mean think about it… She lived in terrible living conditions with a step family that treated her very poorly and the first man that shows interest in her, she falls in love with, and don’t forget that he’s a prince!

2. Snow White taught me it’s okay to take food from strangers

When there is a creepy old lady, that you have never met, in the woods, persisting that you eat this apple because of how wonderful it is, you should take it! Seems legit.

3. Mulan taught me that if you aren’t wearing makeup and your hair isn’t down, you automatically look like a male.

This part always got me. Remember when they found out she was a woman and Chi Fu threw her out in the snow and no one could tell she was a woman until he took down her hair? Or when she finally meets Shan Yu and he doesn’t know she was until she puts her hair up?

4. Ariel taught me that if you deliberately disobey your parents, you will live happily ever after

King Tyrant told Ariel to stay away from Ursula and from the humans or something bad would happen. Well, she has a voice taken away.

5. Elsa taught me it’s always best to run away from your problems.

The first thing Elsa does when people find out about her problems was run away and built a big ice castle in the middle of a mountain. Trying to talk things out was not a strong point in this movie.

6. Jasmine taught me to have unrealistic hair expectations.

So did Pocahontas… and Rapunzel… and Ariel… well really every Disney princess.

7. Rapunzel taught me that I should trust a random man who breaks into my house and go on an adventure with him

.

Even though they are so adorable together, Repunzel really should have thought twice about going with this guy, he could’ve been escaping from murdering someone!

8. Belle taught me that if a man verbally abuses me, I should fall in love with him.

He throws her into a dungeon, yells at her, and says mean things to her, but she still falls helplessly in love. Sounds like a great idea. #relationshipgoals

9. Auroa taught me that you can fall in love with someone you barely know.

How long were they in the woods for, maybe two minutes?

10. Cinderella also taught me that if you wish hard enough and wait long enough, something good will happen to you.

Cinderella just waits for her fairy godmother to save the day. She could’ve just said, “Screw you” and left, got a job, and learned how to be independent. But, nahhh.

11. All of these movies taught me that if you’re old or ugly, you’re automatically evil

Jafar, old and ugly; Ursula, ugly; Shan Yu, ugly; Mother Gothel, old, and the list goes on and on.

12. Getting married at sixteen is perfectly okay.

Nuff said.

You might think twice next time you watch these. You’re welcome for forever ruining these wonderful Disney movies!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
