If you're anything like me, you love musical theater. There is nothing quite like it. Nothing that can truly transport you and create magic that theater can. Nothing ignites emotions and hits you that deep.
Over the years I have listened to countless cast recordings, watched endless Youtube videos, and have cried for way to many hours over the beautiful music that musicals create. Whether you need some musical songs to belt it out to in the car, in the shower, or while you're getting ready, don't worry ... I've got you covered!
1. "The Wizard and I" - Wicked
We all know that Defying Gravity is an amazing song and by far one of, if not the biggest, highlight from Wicked. However, "The Wizard and I" is such a fantastic song that definitely does not get enough credit in my opinion! This is one of my all-time favorites and will leave you feeling happy and hopeful that all your dreams can come true.
2. "Santa Fe" - Newsies
If you want your heart to melt, and I literally mean melt, look no further than Jeremy Jordan's perfect rendition of "Santa Fe". His voice is that of an angel and could, correction will, make you cry happy tears! I highly recommend looking up Jeremy Jordan on Youtube if you don't know who he is. I promise you won't be disappointed!
3. "Seasons of Love" - Rent
Where do I even begin with "Seasons of Love". This song is beautiful, heartwarming, and motivating all at the same time. If this one does leaving you bobbing your heard and clapping to the beat, then I don't know what will!
4. "Satisfied" - Hamilton
There is no way I could possible get through this list without having a song from Hamilton. It is without a doubt one of the most amazing pieces of art EVER! There are so many amazing songs in the show that will get you hyped up; however for me, this one never fails. "Satisfied" is beautiful, yet heartbreaking, but is perfect to belt it out to.
5. "Journey to the Past" - Anastasia
This beloved animated movie, which is surprisingly not Disney, just came to Broadway and is amazing! We all know that we loved this song when we were little if you were lucky enough to have seen this movie. It automatically puts a huge smile on your face.
6. "Evermore" - Beauty and the Beast
This is Alan Menken at his finest. "Evermore" is found solely in the live-action movie, but is truly one of the most memorable songs and is right up there with all the Disney greats. I am literally obsessed and you will be too!
7. "She Used to be Mine" - Waitress
OK, so this one may not leave you feeling to happy, but it is just amazing and a great shower song. You will cry. There is no getting around that. So just go with it and belt it out, whether you can sing or not!
8. "I Believe" - Book of Mormon
There are so many great songs in Book of Mormon, but this one is most definitely the standout. It is hysterical and fun. I recommend this one to perform while you're driving, but hey, that's just me.
9. "Good Morning, Baltimore" - Hairspray
I don't think there is any other Broadway song that is better to sing into your hairbrush while you get ready in the morning than "Good Morning, Baltimore." It's so light-hearted and will leave you feeling great and ready for the day.
10. "One Day More" - Les Miserables
This song requires belting. There is no way around it. Just choose your character, or several if you're feeling a little adventurous, and go to town. The finale of this song is one of the best ever, especially for us tone-deaf people who wish we could sing.
11. "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" - Dreamgirls
This one goes without question. I don't even think I need an explanation as to why this song is amazing and a fantastic to get you hyped.
12. "Waving Through a Window" - Dear Evan Hansen
If you have not yet listened to the magic that is Dear Evan Hansen, you must. This show is so incredibly moving; it's unlike anything else. This song is the standout of the the entire show for me and will leave you so intrigued, you won't be able to stop listening!
I hope that you're days are filled with magic, musicals, and belting as high as you can, whether you the voice of an angel or not! Enjoy!
