11 Truths All Sisters Know

There really is no stronger bond.

11 Truths All Sisters Know

A bond between sisters is much different than other familial ties. You grew up sharing clothes, toys, and maybe even a room. You kept secrets from the parents, but never from each other. They told you when you were having a bad hair day, and you helped teach each other how to work a curling iron and eyeliner. While not every family has the same dynamic, there are some undeniable truths about growing up with your sisters.

1. You always had a best friend

Your sisters were your first friend in life. From running around the house playing tag, to dragging each other/being dragged to the mall, you always had a partner in crime, and you two could tackle whatever came your way.

2. You always had a second closet

If you were like me and my sister, whatever was hers, was also mine (most of the time). I got plenty of hand-me-downs as she left her teenage years and I entered mine, and there was more than one occasion where I would sneak into her room to "borrow" a pair of shoes or sweater.

3. You fight...a lot.

And that's okay! You know you won't stay mad at each other forever, and its funny to look back at all the petty arguments you had that started over absolutely nothing important.

4. You have someone to attend Family Events with

Because in your family, you know one of your cousins is going to do something stupid, and you both want to be there to make sure that they never live it down.

5. You have too many inside jokes

Hanging out with your sister and a third party member can make the friend feel like a third wheel, but you two can't help it! After all, you have spent your whole lives together and don't keep secrets, the best and worst stories are sure to come up (even if no one else finds them as funny as you do).

6. You can talk about anything

From boys to partying to pooping, there isn't a topic you two don't feel comfortable talking about.

7. She will always call you on your bullshit

She knows your tell for when your lying like the back of her hand, and she will always call you out for stealing her clothes or lying to the parents (without actually telling the parents).

8. Your Honest

That top doesn't look good on you? Your sister is the only one who will tell you. Obviously, she isn't trying to hurt your feelings, she just wants you to look fly as hell when you two are hitting the streets together.

9. Most of your conversations begin with "Remember when..."

Because reminiscing on all the trouble you caused growing up is one of your favorite past times and always has a way to bring you closer together.

10. Copying/Being Copied

Growing up, I always wanted to be just like my older sister (I mean, she seemed so cool!), and I know me constantly trying to tag along with her was probably infuriating. Now, I can see my little sister following in the same footsteps, and it's a little flattering to have someone look up to you (and tell you that the moment you started acting "basic" was the moment she stopped trying to use me as a role model).

11. Having someone to be weird with

Random Dance sessions? Check. Singing as loud as you can while making dinner? Check. Burping contests? Weird accents? Facebook stalking that boy you met at the mall? Check, check, and check.

You and your sister/sisters have always been there for each other. You're going to be each other's bridesmaids, and you already know your children are going to be those cousins that grow up to be best friends. The older you grow, the closer you become, and despite all the arguments and slanders thrown across the house, you wouldn't trade your sisters for the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
