A brother-sister relationship is a great one, especially if you're less than a few years apart. Full of highs and lows, good times and bad, the only people who understand the bond are those that have one or the other. You grow up together, share all your childhood memories with them, and somehow remain friends at the end of each day. Siblings out there, you know how it is.
1. You always have to cover for each other.
Whether it's getting in the house after curfew or keeping a secret, you've got their back, whether you do so gladly or not.
2. You know each other's morning routine, strange habits, and annoying ticks.
The more you think about how much you know one another, the more you realize how much you really are around each other. Often, it's too often.
3. Some instinct inside you will always cause you to protect one another.
When it comes to bad friends, bullies, or parents, you can put all hate aside to stand up for your sibling. Like Violet and Dash, you're each other's superhero.
4. On more days than one, you'll walk out of the house matching.
I don't know how it happens or if some sort of telepathy is involved, but it's bound to occur at least once a week. Even worse if that day of the week happens to be when you have a school dance because of course your mom will take a picture and people will think you went together as a last resort. Or even worse they'll think you're really together if they don't know you're actually related.
5. Our greatest, I mean absolutely greatest joy is when the other sibling does something wrong and you get to hold it against them until they fess up.
A small part is just happy that we didn't do it, but it's mostly knowing that for once you aren't the one in trouble.
6. A lot of the things you each do are the same.
Because sharing the same parents, some genes, and certain physical features wasn't enough, a brother and sister have similar interests, make the same faces, and say things the same too. Like sister, like brother and vice versa.
7. There are times when you absolutely cannot stand the thought, idea or sight of the other sibling.
Whether your parents are playing favorites towards them or they've pushed every one of your buttons, you have to have moments of hate to really love them.
8. We pretend like we don't miss each other after a long time apart.
When you're the older one and you come home from school, there's a small glimmer of hope that your sibling will express how much they missed you while you were gone. After the first time going back home, you'll learn to rarely expect enthusiasm at your arrival. Deep, deep down though, they secretly did miss you.
9. Your friends are their friends and theirs are yours.
When each of your best friends are always at the house, this little group forms and just like that, everyone starts doing everything together.
10. The bond you both share is one unlike any other.
Having a brother or sister is one of the biggest things we can thank our parents for. At a young age we learn to love this person that will always be linked to us. They are our shoulder when we need one, an ear when we have problems, and a friend always.
Go hug your brother or sister! You know you love em.
