I was born and raised in the small East Texas town of Palestine. Granted, there are much smaller towns in Texas, but it most definitely makes the list. Here are a few things that really are true when you’re from a small town..
1. Everyone knows everyone... literally.

No matter where you go when you go back home to visit, you will always run into someone you know. The first time my boyfriend visited my hometown with me, he asked me if we were going to see someone I knew everywhere. He still thinks it's weird. To me, it’s normal.
2. News spreads like a wildfire, no matter what it is.
via CartoonStockBetween social media, phone and text, everyone hears news quickly, and it never fails to become more elaborate as it spreads.
3. You will always have a favorite spot in town.

Chances are, this place has been there since before you were born. You probably went to it weekly growing up, sometimes more than once. Unfortunately, my favorite place in my hometown closed its doors last year. I may or may not still be a little bitter.
4. Getting stuck behind a tractor really happens.

No, that doesn’t just happen in movies. Trying to pass them is a terrible idea, so you embrace it and have a jam session in your car while you follow going less than 10 miles per hour.
5. Most small towns have certain things that they are known for.

Mine is known for The Dogwood Trails Celebration. People drive from all over the country to see the Dogwoods every year.
6. A lot of people have never even heard of your hometown.

Unless you've been to my hometown, you probably have no idea where it is. Any time someone doesn't know, you have to reference the next biggest town.
7. Your parents will ALWAYS find out what you did.

When I was a junior, I got pulled over for the very first time for speeding. The state trooper went to my church, so he was nice enough to give me a warning. However, I had no intentions of telling my Mom out of fear I would get grounded. Unfortunately for me, my friend that was in the car with me posted about it on social media (back when MySpace was the cool thing). Needless to say, my Mom knew about it within a couple of hours.
8. Your former teachers still remember you.
No matter what grade they taught you, even the ones where you had several different teachers, they still know your name. You may even be friends with some of them on Facebook.
9. The kids you started Kindergarten with are the same kids you finished high school with.

You know all of their names and you most likely know their parents too. You all went to the same church. You’ll get invited to their weddings and baby showers. When you run into them when you’re both in town, you’ll talk like no time has passed.
10. A part of you will always miss it.
I will be the first to admit that I couldn’t wait to get out of my small town. Even now, I'm usually ready to get back to the city after a few days, but sometimes it is the one place I know I can always go if I just need a mental break from life. One of my favorite things to do will always be looking at the stars. You can’t do that in the city.
11. Your hometown will always have a piece of you.
via Madison Reid
No matter how long you’ve been gone, your hometown will always be home. It’s where you grew up, where you learned how to do new things, where you fell in love for the first time, and where all of your childhood memories are. It's where you became you.
