Finals week is quickly approaching for many college students around the country, which means that summer is on its way. If you’re not completing a summer internship or working at the local pool for the summer, take advantage of the few weeks you have nothing to worry about. However tempting it might be to sit inside and watch a few series on Netflix, get out and do something fun!
1. Take a trip to an amusement park with some friends.
A trip to Six Flags can be fairly inexpensive if you get a big group together and split costs. Roller coasters, slushies and walking what seems like 10,000 miles in a day makes for an awesome trip.
2. Make homemade ice cream with the fam.
There's a peach farm called Reeve's a few miles down from my house that has been around as long as I can remember. Every summer when the peaches come in, my family makes a couple gallons of homemade peach ice cream. It's a tasty and fun way to spend time with your family.
3. Take your mom or dad on a "date night."
Our parents do so much for us, we should give back and treat them every once in a while. My dad and I frequent Cracker Barrel and Marvel movies for our daddy-daughter dates.
4. Road trip to visit some of your college friends.
One of the best parts of meeting new people in college is having places to crash when you want to travel. Call up some friends, hop in your car, and travel the country this summer.
5. Visit a water park.
I'm no stranger to a 100-degree heat index since I've lived in Alabama my whole life. You can find me chilling' out, maxin', and relaxin' all cool by the pool most days.
6. Go for a hike.
Hiking is a great way to get exercise and enjoy the beautiful summer weather. Bonus: there's also potential to see cute pups along the way.
7. #tbt to summer camp and roast marshmallows and hot dogs over a campfire.
Summer nights can be kind of chilly, so start a bonfire and make some s'mores!
8. Invite some friends over for a good, old-fashioned slumber party.
Make some popcorn, rent a rom-com, and snuggle up with a few of your closest gal pals. Some of my favorite summer memories are staying up talking all night with my best friends and watching the sunrise the next morning.
9. If you’re close enough, take a day trip to the beach.
Last summer, I woke up at a friend’s house in Auburn at 5 a.m., ate lunch in Panama City Beach, then was back in my bed to sleep at 1 that morning. It was one of the most fun memories I’ve had since starting college.
10. Get organized.
Save yourself some grief and unpack your belongings once you get home from school. Get rid of any clothes you haven't touched in months, (we all know you rotate the same 5 shirts) de-clutter your desk, and keep it organized so you're ready to pack it all back up in a few months.
11. Create your own drive-in movie.
Grab a white sheet, projector, your favorite movie, and some friends and set up your own drive-in. Get some blankets and pillows together and get ready for a good night!
