Thanksgiving can be such a wonderful time of the year. This holiday allows us to really take time to think back and give thanks for all that we have been blessed with. It's also a plus to be able to reunite with friends and family over this break.

Through all the excitement that this time of year brings, there are some things that are must does in regards to Thanksgiving and break.

1. Sleep In: We all need to catch up on some sleep that we have been neglected. It's called break, so its time to give yourself a nice break.

2. See Old Friends: Some friends go to school or live far away now as we have all grown into adults. This is the perfect opportunity to get together for a friends giving and catch up on all the life events that have been happening. True friends don't let distance tear them apart; they make time for each other.

3. Eat Turkey: On Thanksgiving it is so important to pig out on some turkey along with all the fancy sides that are on the table as well. Turkey is key to a healthy happy heart as well as a well needed nap on Thanksgiving Day. Plus who doesn't like those left over turkey sandwiches following that feast?

4. See Extended Family: This is the beginning of that time of year when you start receiving cards and calls from family members that you haven't talked to the whole year. During this time its also important to set aside some family time not just for your immediate family but also the extended family that you don't see very often. Family is family and it's also nice to see how much love there is in family.

5. Work: While being home it gives us all the opportunity to go back to our jobs and make some extra money so we can actually afford to get our family and friends a little gift for the holidays.

6. Watch Christmas Movies/Netflix: This is the perfect time to start getting yourself ready to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ and all the joy that the holiday season brings. Also, catching up on those newly added shows on Netflix that you've had to pretend like you haven't seen in order to pass finals and other projects due before break is vital.

7. Put Up Christmas Decorations: This can be an important tradition to the family or it can just be a fun thing to do yourself. Listening to some christmas music while decorating really lightens the mood and can bring so much inner joy that is vital to a happy life. Don't be afraid to go all out, let people know you have love to give.

8. Go Shopping: Whether it's Black Friday shopping or not, it's great to get out there and do some shopping for the holidays. Get some items off that list, watch those crazy shoppers, go out with friends, and just have fun.

9. Workout: After all that food it's probably best to get some exercise in. Plus if working out is in the new year resolution then its never too early to start building up the habit.

10. School Work: Lets all be real, no one wants to be thinking about school over break. However, some evil professors have given us the burden of work over break so we must buckle down at one point or another and get it all done.

11. Give Thanks: There isn't much else to it. Be thankful for all you have been blessed with and all the opportunities life has given you.

With all this being said, go enjoy your break and most of all Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
