The end of a school year can be a very confusing time for college students. Are we happy that we are done with homework (for now) or are we upset that we are leaving our college friends? Are we happy to be back to Mom's home cooking or are we upset that we can no longer order Domino's to the dorm at 3 a.m.? Here are some thoughts I have had during my first few weeks home.
1. Wow, I actually did it. I conquered my five final exams, two final papers, and presentation all for just four classes. I really am proud of myself for not going mentally insane. Time to celebrate!
2. But first, let me take a three day-long nap.
3. Oh, boy, am I excited to be back. I have my non-twin XL bed, my own room again, my family, and even my annoying little brother. This is what heaven must be like.
4. Nothing is better than the reunion with my favorite pet: my true best friend and the one I shadily missed the most.
Can't wait for endless trips to the backyard to play fetch and cuddling at night!
5. Second place for best reunion goes to me and my car.
I can now drive wherever I want whenever I want! So long cheap campus food and Uber rides. Hello, restaurants and waiter service!
6. How do I budget my time equally between seeing my home friends and my school friends?
We all have that one school friend who lost touch with all of his or her home friends, and always wants to hang out.
7. So, my parents have officially began threatening to cut me off for the summer unless I get a job. Where am I working?
Do I give up my weekdays and work at a day camp with overly-energetic children and sweat to death, or do I enter the real world and actually work? Either way, this is not going to be fun.
8. Since I just finished the show I binge-watched through finals week, maybe I should text my friends asking for new Netflix recommendations.
That frustrating moment when you tell your friends that every single show that they recommended for you, you've already seen every episode of. Orange is the New Black, done. Scandal, done. Grey's Anatomy, done. House of Cards, done. Now what?
9. Should I even bother going to the gym to work on the summer bod -- or keep watching Netflix?
I think the answer to this question is obvious.
10. I miss my college and school friends.
What I would do to get back to my twin-XL size bed, my roommate, my hallmates, my beautiful campus, friends, cheap dorm food, but most importantly, ultimate freedom!
Don't worry people, we will get through this together. Enjoy summer and no homework while it lasts!
